My 1950/51 admiral tv!

Plenty of Admiral fans here. I have two older ones.

Yep...I have a 19A11 7" Bakelite, & a 10" wood consollette...

Nice set. I've yet to find an Admiral with the built-in radio.

Its a rare set the tv works great, but cant get the radio to work.
nice tvs and radios I also have a 1954 crosley with a very rare tuner with bad caps I have a rare philco pedicta aka my photo.

Counting this one ive had 2 this, and an admiral super cascode

I have its plain cousin, a 17DX12. I intend to restore it during the "coming winter"

It was an easy restoration and this 7-inch TV performs very well given its simple design. This may inspire me to dig out the 24C15 console that's waiting for restoration in the back of my shop.

:banana::banana:hey I am down to just 2 admiral comos and one plastic cabinet table set and 1 metal set.. but none of thetvs work 1 combo radio and record changer does and that sucks..:thumbsdn::tears:

I don't want to take the springiness out of your bananas [...] but your Admiral has 'bad caps' too, it just happens to be running on them--for the moment. It's up to you, but I'd at minimum replace the electrolytics to avoid a smokey disappointment one day.

That 26R12 that I have shown above actually worked when I got it. But I did a complete restoration which included all paper and electrolytic capacitors and any tubes that were sub par. After it was running for a while, I heard a pop on the bench and lost half of the vertical height. And, the linearity was way off. And, this is what it looked like:

Long story short, it was "tin whiskers" on the height control. Boy, that was my first encounter and it was a bugger to find.

The pictures way above are the set when I got it. I have since gotten the correct color volume control knob. And the second picture is after I found and cleaned the height control. This set works very well with the BT modulator...

About 10 days, give or take, because I'm a slowpoke and I putter with these things sporadically. An experienced restorer who works steadily might would have done the same work in two or three days.

This was an unusually easy restoration because it's a simple TV and I happened to find a good one. Most of my projects take longer -- sometimes much longer, depending on the complexity of the TV and what problems it has.

I am partial to Admirals. Grew up with them. Parents had 3 total. I have only 1.

They made a nice quality set i have a 1951 tabletop (WORKS) with a built in radio!

At first I though, oh God, someone fishtanked it. But now that I look at it, it looks like an add on water or oil filled lens to magnify the CRT face size. whew.

I ran acrost one of the "Biggest EVER piece of Bakelite" 10" sets about 10-15 yrs ago in an antique/junk shoppe in Ft. Chiswell, Virginia...IIRC, they wanted $150 for it, the bakelite was unbroken, but the chassis was rusty as all get-out, & I passed on it...Wished I HADN'T now... Went back there last summer, & of course it was gone. That area is FULL of Aunty Kew shoppes-its REASONABLY close to Hillsville, Virginia, site of one of the BIGGEST antique/yard sale/honey hole extravaganzas in the mid south...Ever year at Labor Day.

Right, it's a giant add on magnifier. The chassis and CRT are on the floor to the right of the set.
The cabinet is in miserable condition and the chassis is a bit chewed up, but when I saw that magnifier I knew I had to get it :)

Back in the late 1950s and possibly 60s Admiral B&W tellies were selling down here in Australia, an example of an Australian Admiral set is a 1957 Admiral Imperial 800 21" B&W TV which can be viewed at the Powerhouse Museum website http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/coll...ase/?irn=11134 . According to the given info this set was made in Sydney so Admiral must of had an overseas branch here in Australia to manufacture tellies for the Aussie market. Also got some 1957 pictures from some state library site of the Admiral TV assembly line in a factory located in Bankstown so that would be where that set was made, here they are:
