sanjarali 08-22-2012 05:42 AM

TV is most grand. America is unexplainable in riches. In my birth nation it require pension of upper caste to have such TV. In this land man is happy to give grand TV for free! :music::smoke:

Sandy G 08-22-2012 07:02 AM

Tony V 08-22-2012 10:03 AM

I hope the CRT isn't necked, laying it on it's back like that. :sigh:

Sandy G 08-22-2012 10:54 AM

Yeah...That bothered me, too...

ctc17 08-22-2012 11:07 AM

Wow, TV abuse! That almost seems intentional to push our buttons.

snelson903 08-22-2012 11:30 AM

lets hope it just laying over the open compartment that some jeeps have in that area, but it looks like he's got up on some bags or something.

sanjarali 08-22-2012 11:38 AM

:scratch2: dieseljeep and tony v are same words? I translation necked and says

necked[ nekt ]
adjective
1.#having a neck of a kind specified (usually used in combination): a square-necked blouse.

neck[ nek ]
noun
1.#the part of the body of an animal or human being that connects the head and the trunk.
(used with object)
1.#to embrace, kiss, and caress (someone) amorously.
2.#to strangle or behead.

I do not read?? :scratch2:

TV is not animal. :thumbsdn:

mpatoray 08-22-2012 11:47 AM

When talking about a Television picture tube there is a "Neck" of the tub at the back behind the bell, to have a tube "necked" means that the end of the tube gets broken off, destroying the tube. So definition 2 form the use as a noun is about the best description of what happens.

DaveWM 08-22-2012 12:00 PM

did you break the CRT by laying it on the back for transport. I hope that is clear.

Sandy G 08-22-2012 06:21 PM

Yeah, there's usually a plastic triangular/oddly-shaped piece of plastic that sticks out the back of most TVs that protects the back end of the CRT where the socket & connections are...It is generally NOT designed to hold any great amount of weight, is easily broken, & then the weight of the entire TV comes down on the VERY fragile small end of the CRT, & it will break, rendering the CRT junk.

ggregg 08-22-2012 07:37 PM

The worst sound in the world is when you bump it and you hear all the vacuum hissing out.

snelson903 08-22-2012 09:08 PM

:scratch2:is it working yet , want picture's of it working . you have been to quiet ??

josephdaniel 08-22-2012 09:36 PM

it looks like he has it sitting on some bags so the CRT is probably fine.

It's the air hissing in, in reality.
Probably where the term " hissy fit " originated. :D

sanjarali 08-23-2012 09:35 AM

Yikes, I don't like seeing the set on its back like that either. Definitely NOT a safe way to transport a television set, but like other posters have said, it appears that it is raised in such a way where the CRT is protected, however, the weight of that set will most certainly cause the back cover to bow in as those fiberboard backs were never intended to support any weight.

Not a bad looking set though. I remember my Grandma had almost the exact same one when I was a kid, it lasted up to about 1984 or so before it was replaced with a used Zenith that was about 5 years old at the time. The old tube Magnavox sets were sometimes quirky but they did have great pictures! Nice save!

sanjarali 08-23-2012 12:22 PM

I now understand words of necking to CRT. :sigh:

I will speak Bishar to steady TV and save. many here help me.

lnx64 08-23-2012 12:36 PM

So you broke it.

Good job.

zenithfan1 08-23-2012 04:44 PM

He didn't say it's broken. Sanjarali, did the CRT glass neck get broken?

lnx64 08-23-2012 06:30 PM

Oh it looked to me it was inferred he had. I'm just having a difficult time understanding him.

i not sure what's being said here ? im confused. well if it's broken, he's all excited about it !

Sandy G 08-23-2012 06:48 PM

...And him unnerstandin' US, too... So let's all kinda give him the benefit of the doubt, OK ?

AUdubon5425 08-23-2012 08:28 PM

He simply said he understands what Necking means now, not that it had gotten necked.

Mal Fuller 08-23-2012 09:26 PM

The vacuum doesn't "hiss out," the air hisses in.

One thing to be careful and worry about is when the vehicle hits a bump or pothole, the set could bounce enough to smack the end of the CRT neck and bust it off.

bgadow 08-23-2012 10:32 PM

I think the TV will be okay, just be very careful and aware of the dangers.

Sanjari, some of the guys here like to pick on your use of the English language. I say, how many of them can speak even two words of your language! Enjoy the TV!

Aussie Bloke 08-24-2012 04:19 AM

Great find over there in Oman, on research I read that television was introduced there in 1974 and your television looks to be made in the late 1960s, if I am correct you most certainly have an early rare set predating television in your country!!!:D Over here in Australia (where I live), I last year picked up a 1947 Andrea VJ12 television chassis http://troysvintagevideo.0catch.com/andrea.html which predates television in Australia by 9 years (we got B&W TV in 1956), so that was an excellent score for me!:D Anyhow hope your TV survived the trip without damage.

sanjarali 08-24-2012 07:51 AM

AussieBlokeHave TV is in USA. Also I am in USA. My borning was in Oman until uncle was executed for disloyal to party. :thumbsdn::thumbsdn:All family must leave Oman or women get stoned and men must remove penis. :thumbsdn::thumbsdn::thumbsdn::thumbsdn:We make way to Saudi Arabia and go to USA Dearborn MI 48126. Family leave 15 age years. TV only for upper caste in Oman such as uncle who was large powerful member.

ctc17 08-24-2012 08:21 AM

Sounds like the typical collage initiation party.
Do we have a make and model number on this set yet? Looks like a Magnavox from the bottom

David Roper 08-24-2012 08:33 AM

Executed, how terrible. Removal of a large and powerful member seems like punishment enough.
