Both of these are from my early childhood. The B&W pic is from 1957 and the colour pic is pre-1964.
Note the little RCA Victor 45 player on top of the TV from '57.

The older set is a 1951 Hallicrafters 17" table model. The newer set is a 1958 Zenith. Both good models.:yes:

The lower one looks to be a 1959 Zenith model B2223 the Trenton. I have a huge full line Zenith poster in which it appears sitting right behind me.

Too bad I lacked the wall space for that thing, but come to think of it so do you! :p

Nah, I got plenty of space for it....All I need to do to go from 95% to 100% of it being visible is to move my only working TRF radio receiver.

Prolly some sort of bad, latent Character Defect, but when I saw the 1st pic, all that came to MY twisted little mind was-"Mommy ! I KNOW you JUST changed me 'n' all, but guess what ? I just Poo-ed muh Diaper....AGAIN !" ...But I also think that at least a FEW here can prolly relate....(grin)

More like the quality runs out when the cabinet rots and the chassis falls out! :D

I have three 62-64 metal cabinet portables that work and are stock (aside from some tubes) one of them I got as a half dismantled parts set with two disconnected tuners! I also have a 51-52 porthole that displays a good picture and is bone stock (aside from tubes, and 3-5 paper caps that were replaced by brown drops sometime in it's distant past.

These sets hate to quit and almost need to be killed in order to have an excuse to do so. And if you find Zenith's TV add for their first portable transistor monochrome set you will realize that not only were Quaker puffed rice/wheat "the ones shot from guns", but Zenith's were the ones built to be dropped from planes while running and keep on trucking even after hitting earth!
