Can't Stop Looking At This Set!
 

Can't seem to convince myself that driving 480+ miles is worth it, but DAMN I just can't stop admiring this set! Any one know what model it is? Maybe I'll convince myself to find a method to ship it to me.

Looks like a nice set, and likely so being a SC. Curious that the tubes seem to be pulled?

Cool Stromberg! Looks like the same chassis as the TC-10 tabletop model.

I'd go for it, C&F could ship it for you but it would be exorbitant.

Stromberg-Carlson things of that vintage are built like tanks. I love the "roll bar" that lets you set the chassis on its side for service.

Ok I had a dream about this set last night. I'm going to call him today to see if he's open to shipping. Can you guys give suggestions on shipping a big console like this? Any one close to this guy who might be able to lend a hand shipping if he is not into it?

That set will fit in a Prius. Right now, Mine is getting 51 MPG with the air on. 960/51=19 gals.X $3.65= $69.35 .

A few years ago I sold a c.1970 Zenith color console to a gentleman and to my surprise he showed up in a Saab! No problem, he just popped the hatchback and shoved that set in the back. Of course, the hatch wouldn't close but what's wrong with a little flow-through ventilation?

I had a Saab 900 back in the late 90s, and it was a great car for hauling stuff. I recall getting a full-size water heater into it at the Home Despot. TVs and radios no problem. Got a Prius after that car, since I liked the versatility of a large hatchback. Don't have a hatchback anymore, but they are awefully nice when it comes to transporting big items in a relatively small car.

That is a pretty cool SC, so I can understand the appeal!

Since your new to the hobby(I've been collecting since 5 restoring since 10(that makes about a decade of restoring)) I'll let you in on a secret, once you get into the hobby you end up dreaming about vintage electronics regularly! I've drempt of great finds, stuff I've strugled to fix, sets I miss(or did not buy) and sets that were never even designed. Of course I've been to antique shops before I started collecting so I have dreams about wandering through maze like, often dark antigue malls regulary as well, and about half the time these dreams overlap with the radio dreams. Okay, maybe I'm wierd? But the dreams tell you nothing...Go with your gut not your subconchoncious it is usually right.

I had a dream where I was attempting to fix a radio, found a solid state glass encased rectifier diode that had not been soldered on a terminal. Got out the soldering iron, and started to heat the joint, and the diode shattered, spraying bits of glass all over my brother's bed. (why I was doing this on my brother's bed, I don't know, dreams tend to not make much sense). So I get the vacuum cleaner to suck up the glass bits...

Tom already knows this but you guys would be absolutely amazed at what fits in the back of a Saab 900 3 door pre-1994. The hatch opens all the way to the floor. I've fit a couch in, it hanged out the back but what the heck, and also 3 consoles at one time once.

I wonder how much bigger the cargo area is in those compared to the '97 my wife has.

For best small radio and TV hauller I place my vote with the 02-06ish Honda C-RV. We had a blue 02' till last fall when we lost it to I-94 traffic (ie some idiot rearended the old girl dammiging her beyond market value).
I-94 between Waukesha and Downtown Milwaukee during busy times, If ever bumper cars broke the 20MPH bairier daily that would be the place! Ooh the things I've seen....Milwaukee DPW tow trucks racing eachother/weaving thorugh traffic so dense I thought it impossible:jawdrop:, a cold faced young hispanic couple in a Ford SUV scareing cars out of their way with threat of ramming(what is more they would cut ya off after passing):jawdrop:, the list goes on. It is so bad I'm contemplating getting a camera and a youtube account to try to shame/incriminate these mental patients off the road (and maybe start a youtube sensation)!:rant:
There is literally one or more accidents at any given bussy time one can drive through, which explains how the auto accident lawers can put on air more ads than some corporations.:rant:

when I was a kid I had a lawn mower bottom 20" all metal walker with no engine, a flat piece of plywood topped with a piece of carpet. Whenever mom or dad saw me sneak up the driveway with it they knew I'd be home in an hour or four with a floor model tv on top of it. We also used it around the house to haul around firewood. (outside mostly) I sent a picture to the "Idea guy" in Popular science that would make drawing like cartoons and send people $50. for an idea they used, but it never got used...... So......... if you really really want it, you'll find a way to git it home.

I am picturing that lawn-mower-base gadget in my head, and it is a neat idea. What you really should do, though, if you still had it, is to put a baby in one of those plastic carriers with the handle over the top, onto the lawn mower plywood. Then, submit it to www.thereifixedit.com as a red-neck stroller! :)
