Please don't bid,

I want this all to myself, for firewood!

Such a steal for $200.

Well, we got a month to fight over it...

RitchieMars 11-17-2010 12:54 AM

Wow... that is amazing. That RCA's cabinet has aged gracefully, just like Phil Spector. I wonder if they let him wear those wigs in prison?

The best part about finding this listing, is seeing all of the other amazing antiques this seller has to offer. I always love that whole "I don't claim to be an expert at the things I sell, so I imitate what I see in antique stores and price everything as pretentiously as possible" approach. Rusty old frying pans never seemed so exciting until you add that $140 price tag to them.

bandersen 11-17-2010 12:57 AM

Wow, you weren't kidding! How about $800 for some old filthy window glass ?

Aw, that's nothing. Just build a new cabinet, build a new chassis to go in it, change out the pix tube, and it'll work fine.

sean 11-17-2010 07:59 AM

That had been listed on Craigslist. I forget what they were asking for it but it may have been similar to the ebay ad with OBO. I thought about telling them that I sold a similar RCA console on ebay last year in much better condition and only got $20 for it.

I sent him this, with the topic POS:

If you cut yourself on that thing, get a tetanus shot IMMEDIATELY!

Let's see if the jackass posts it.

edison64 11-17-2010 04:02 PM

I love it when they reassure you that it worked years ago... of corse. It did moron!!!! It was also brand new years ago too..

ggregg 11-18-2010 06:43 AM

Feedback is 5 too.

M3-SRT8 11-19-2010 01:13 AM

I would give that beast a Viking Funeral...:smoke:

Sandy G 11-19-2010 05:46 AM

...Or a "Top Gear" one, where they drop a piano on it...Or a Morris Marina...Or a 600' tall smokestack...

edison64 11-19-2010 05:10 PM

Sandy.... I vote smokestack, that was an awesome end for the car.

sean 11-19-2010 06:31 PM

I noticed they lowered the price on the ebay auction, or you could get even more of a bargain through Craigslist.

I'd give $25 for the chassis & tube, if the tube was good.

It obviously sat in about 6 inches of water for some length of time.

sean 12-28-2010 09:16 AM

It's being parted out now. Here is the CRT. The safety glass, doors, and a pair of rabbit ears are also listed for outrageous prices. The chassis, knobs, and speaker are not listed.

Darn, the seller ships in the USA only. I was going to buy it for my distant cousin who works at the Antarctica research station. That might make it worth the price with the free shipping. :)

Aww, that is indeed an opportunity missed. I wonder just how fine they could have gotten the particles of tube glass crushed down to over that much distance. I can just see the Indiana Jones-style map of its progress getting to the bottom of the world via every conceivable point on the globe.

eberts 01-01-2011 05:17 AM

He has an item listed for $31, worth about $300.

I doubt it if his booking photo is any indication...

Sandy G 01-01-2011 08:57 PM

Daddy Phil looks crazier than your basic Shithouse Rat...

ggregg 01-01-2011 10:49 PM

Seems to be he has been, for quite some time.

heathkit tv 01-01-2011 11:30 PM

Proof of his craziness: when he was pronounced guilty he said in a Mr. Burns voice "Exxxsillent...." while tapping the tips of his fingers together.

Sandy G 01-01-2011 11:38 PM

Phil was/is regarded by some as a Genius for his producing prowess in popular music...Just goes to confirm the old saw about the line between insanity & genius being a mighty THIN one...After reading a little about him, & his increasingly erratic, bizarre behavior, looks like SOMEBODY shoulda seen this coming...And tried to do something about it.

heathkit tv 01-01-2011 11:43 PM

Red Skelton used to say about himself "If I wasn't rich and famous they would've locked me up a long time ago"

And similarly "If you're strange and rich you're considered an eccentric...if strange and poor, you're crazy"

I'm not rich, you figure it out...I'm too busy arguing with the voices.
