Looks pretty clean and appears to have it's original TV.

Something about that first photo made me think of this. While I don't care for the design, I think it would look neat in a converted attic with knee walls. It would sort of nestle right in.

Too weird for me. It belongs in one of those strange flat-roof, all-glass houses with chrome kitchen cabinets, purple glitter ceilings and bamboo wood doors in the Hollywood Hills. And it can please stay there, where I don't have to see it. But as a TV collector, I admit it's rare.

Still think they shoulda put a color roundie in 'em...At least for the ones for N. America...THAT woulda been something...Color TV was still pretty much "Out there" when these things were made,& that fact, coupled w/the "Out there" styling these guys had, they MIGHT have had a hit on their hands w/well-heeled "Avant-Guard" types...

I don't think it's too weird, however, I know it's way too freakin big!! It would be neat to have... if you had a really big room to put it it. :)

You can see one in the flesh at the ETF museum. They really do need a big space to display properly. I saw photos of one crammed into a little apartment, and it looked absurd.

This guy (or a friend) offered to sell this set to me, for a 'neighbor' back in 2006. I had told them it was worth about $2,000-$3,000 back then...but they saw a report that an overpriced Auction Gallery got about $7,000 for one in 2001, so he decided it was well worth that price (good luck!). It'll be interesting to see where they put the Reserve price!

These are big and interesting, but at least 2 or 3 have turned up on ebay in the past few years, and I know of several more in Museums, so they're much more common then it would appear. If anyone here gets it, just bring a chain saw when you pick it up, to make it fit into a van easier ... ;)

They can borrow mine... And I'll even throw in a 70-horsepower Diesel tree chipper to finish the work :thmbsp:

There is a house in a little town called Church Hill near here that NEEDS this thaing...Mostly glass & brick, & the "walls" are wider at the top than at the bottom...the roof is "backwards"-it slopes inward towards the middle, & the eaves are higher than the center..The whole thing screams "Googie !", & also needs a late '50s finmobile-Prolly one of Virgil Exner's heroic Imperials-sittin' in front of it...Strangely enuff, the place is quite attractive...

I do think they look kind of cool, but it does seem kind of disappointing they just stuck a 21" b/w set in there. My ctc-10 (in a very plain looking cabinet by comparison) seems so much more exciting with color and that remote with the motor that actually turns the color, volume, and tint controls. I would have liked to see the Komet have a remote that also rotated the top of the set...

Is that the correct tv in that thing. It looks to square. The one on ebay has a link to youtube and on that video the tv is definately diferent than the one on ebay.

yes it is the original tv in the other link u can see that in the 1962 deluxe model it is a square look instead of the rounded sets in the previous models.....:yes:

It will fit in your Cadillac, but you have to drive 2-times.
In the center is a rod, you have to loose the bracket and the wiring (plugs)

Speaking of Virgil Exner, I own a body-off-frame restored 1958 Plymouth Fury. It looks like it rolled off Plymouth's old Detroit Assembly Line.

There was a cable remote, but only for the TV available.:thmbsp:

and record player made by Telefunken, radio with FM Stereo and PP out-

My Comet (1959 top model - TV motorized channel turret tuner) was a
re-import from the states.
I had to buy it, because my father saw once one laying in the street trash, but thought, that it is selfmade art.:screwy:

Yeah-I've thought, that while we kinda "snort" at the Komet's looks, the construction & finish of it was typically German of the period-Which is to say, second to none. Would I like to HAVE a Komet ? Hell, yes !! It would be an almost impossible decision to choose between a Komet, a CT-100 or a TRK-12, if I ever had to pick which one of the 3 I could have. Having said that, would I still make cheap jokes about the Komet ? Of course, because "Cracking Wise" is what I DO.

Oh, yeah, Me Want 'Em ALL...But I have "Champaigne tastes on a Beer Budget..." I guess I'd add a Dumont Royal Sovereign to that list...That's another "Beau Geste" set, basically CAN'T be repaired, because the CRT has a design flaw, IIRC.

There are certain sets that are attention getters, pieces that are great to have in a collection because they are so unique. Portholes, Predictas, Safaris, pioneers like the 621/630, CT100, etc. The Komet belongs in that group. Its size limits it to a very dedicated collector. I suspect that if we had unlimited space any of us would love to have one, but I would rather use that real estate for, say, a couple color roundies, or small screen/projector consoles.

My only Kuba experience was with a console stereo that someone gave me. I was dissapointed at how cheaply it was made compared to some other German sets. But I suppose the Komet would have been of much nicer construction.

You're right.... I'm going to get one, and Thank Goodness they have Public Storage in Siberia :D

Where's that dam book on CRTs ?!? They didn't have aluminised CRTS, the getters in the rear end had too much to do, they got ion burns, apparently w/the existing technology they had at the time, their "reach exceeded their grasp". Wish I had that CRT book handy, it told the whole story....

It's back!!!! only $7K BIN. Let's not all fight over it... he also now says that the "clear finish is peeling" may be that it is in just ok shape,:scratch2: not the museum piece he tauted. still, if I had the room, and he lowered the price about $6500 i could be tempted.:D

A worse joke: "Testing the waters" with a shark-fin-shaped TV.

I have seen three 30BP4s, two were weak but usable, one was completely worn out. But all were still under vacuum. I am not aware of any "design flaw" with the tube. It was a large tube, and hard to achieve a really good quality vacuum, or so the urban legend goes, so the likely fault would be shorter than normal life. But the only "flaw" I see with the tube is that it is too darn big to fit in Hawkeye's oven!

the kuba is in awesome shape when u see it in person......and the auction always said about the clear on the top has peeling this tv is in awesome shape all i can say!!!!!!!!!!i ........has been coverd up since 1962...........and if i can see it it person u probaly can figure out why........
