Hey wow Dave a stand up Magnavox!! I've read about these on this forum! Sweet combo find! It is what I believe is a transistor set 1974 or so?

Wait a minute... That stereo looks awfully like my old 1968 Magnavox flat combo unit I had a few years back. And a closer look that CRT looks like a 90deg CRT. Let us know what you find!

Sorry, but that is just hideous. Velvet paintings, lava lamps and that thing. It's vertical because floor space is at a premium in a trailer.

Yep, my GF says "we don't live in an f***ing trailer" when I bring sets home.:D I agree that this set is about a '68 like Shawn is thinking.

Heck, I think it is cool. Too much money,, but cool.

I think its cool too. Its kinda like a 90s entertainment center built into one. I would be all over that thing.

It is hideous if all that molding is plastic, but I would take this over "mid-century modern" stuff any day.

The lower part of the cabinet is identical to the stereo my parents had - they bought it in 1969 or 1970.

I would not pay that much for it since I have no idea of the problems, but would like to at least check it out.

I don't get it, list it and then don't respond.... there is no phone number so I had to email back. I doubt it went flying out the door, we don't have that many collectors around here, I know most of them and this is not a prize they would go after.

I've sent messages to sellers on CL, and in most cases, got a reply back several days later. Only once have I got a response within 24 hours.

Sometimes, the uglier an item is, the better. I don't think it's UGLY, but I can't say it's attractive. It is, however, kinda cool and I think it should have one of those 70's hanging lamps next to it with the oil running down the fishing lines! :D

I saw a color organ on ebay, sweeeet. I made one of those back in the day, used a little audio transformer, 3 RC cicuits, some SCR's, christmas tree lights, and one of those plastic mosaic floresent light panel covers. Made some for a guy that had a disco club (I was all of 13 at the time) 20$ each for 4 of them, I was rolling in dough..

Ah yes Charlie, the Craigslist rant..... Arrogant and witty all at the same time, but only to respond in like a week becuase just so happens when they posted the item, they had family come into town or they went on vacation, or something like that..

Epsecially the ones that already sold the item in question, just to not respond back because they sold it and figure yoiu will just go away and figure it out for yourself eventually.

The only upright Magnavox that I'd want would be the roundie version, which is very rare. I fixed one a long time ago for a lady down in Los Angeles... Not sure what ever happened to it. They made the upright version all the way from early 60s through the 80s.

I had one of the last uprights - a mid '80's set that used the 25C5 NAP chassis. And, it was very heavy.

This set was also available in white with the velvet. I have seen all of the issues of these.

passed on it, got some other stuff instead, the RCA CTC 16 and plan to get a Magnavox roundie console. Maybe if he comes down A BUNCH...

The only one I'd even remotely consider would be the roundie one. I've never owned an upright Magnavox, and I say that with the same attitude as "I've never had hemorrhoids". No offense whatsoever toward admirers of those sets; after all, nobody else besides me would actually WANT a Cadillac Diesel from the 80s.

I think the one shown above is a tube set from '69-'70, but not sure. I know where there's another one out in Agoura Hills with the first solid state chassis, if the lady still has it.

yea that carved polystrene is UGLY!!

I was just looking for stuff to play with get my feet wet in color. I got my fix for now.

My Philco stand-up combo (Philcomatic III) doesn't have as much of the plastic carving as these do. It's tacky enough though that the wife won't let me keep it in the house so it's in the shop.

I wonder what the termites think of that plastic :scratch2:
