Well, Penn certainly is a stooge... But, I agree that this is a very bad idea. The horror... the horror...

No one on here will see it. Only teenagers. And the stupid ones will like it.

This movie sounds like career suicide.

The IMDB page for this movie has Johnny Depp listed as playing Moe Howard. Weird, weird, weird.

I feel that no good at all can or will come from this. Whoever dreamed this up needs a good slap.

Leave it to Hollywood to ruin a perfectly good thing. If they're going to continue with this half-baked idea, they should get a little more creative in their casting. Carrey? Del Toro? Sheeeeesh. I'd start with Jack Black as Moe....the rest of the gang here can fill in the blanks.

There was a made for TV movie about the Stooges already, from Wiki

"spring of 2000, longtime Stooge fan Mel Gibson executive produced a TV movie (The Three Stooges) about the lives and careers of the comedians. Playing Moe was Paul Ben-Victor; Evan Handler was Larry; John Kassir was Shemp; and Michael Chiklis was Curly. It filmed in Sydney, Australia and was produced for and broadcast on ABC. It was based on Michael Fleming's authorized biography of the Stooges, The Three Stooges: From Amalgamated Morons to American Icons. Its unflattering portrayal of Ted Healy led Healy's son to give media interviews calling the film inaccurate. The film regularly runs on the American Movie Classics (AMC) channel."

It is a good film and they really did an excellent job with it.

Maybe, but as almost everyone has already said, you can't beat the
original. NYUCK, NYUCK.

That 2000 biopic was at least watchable. It was not especially funny, as it was really not specifically meant to be. Kinda sad, really, the Stooges made Columbia zillions, yet they really didn't get to share in it. They lived pretty well by the standards of the day, but when you read of the multi-million buck deals actors get today, they got what the little boy shot at by comparison.

Maybe they could pull it off with better casting, but I doubt it. To start, the actors should all be Jewish, at least. So much about why the Three Stooges were funny comes from who they were and their background. How are you going to duplicate that? And Jim Carey as Curly? Give me a break!

Trying to make a 3 Stooges movie would be about like trying to capture lightning in a jug...THEY did, but I really don't think anyone else could. Or should even try.

This is a bad idea. I think Hollywood ran out of good ideas for movies years ago.

That explains the plague of re-makes.

What about Shemp?

Hollywood has been trying for decades to recreate the perfect storm these guys created. They have never succeeded, and never will.

I like Jim Carrey, but he has got to be the worst pick for any stooge.. he's just too goofy to be a stooge..

I know its my opinion, some things you just cannot do twice. The Stooges is one of them. I know lots of folks disagree with me, but its no different than Steve Martin trying to do Peter Sellers. No way, no how.

Hollywood is out of ideas and are content to regurgitate anything old just to make a buck.

And by far! I watched Death Race 2000 and Texas Chainsaw Massacre the other night. Truly good stuff. Not "art" per see but very talented productions.

Leave it up to Hollywood to screw things up again. Nobody, but nobody will ever do justice to the "Stooges".

I would not be one of those folks. Although I think you'd agree that after "A Shot In The Dark" even Sellers had a hard time playing Clouseau.

Been a long time since I've seen Death Race 2000 but the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre left a mark. The first time I saw it was in the late 80's. Having been a fan of the late 70's to mid 80's horror films I was stunned by the realization that they all took their cues from TCM if not outright plagiarized it. Some of the scene constructions in later films seemed near shot for shot dupes.
