Heh, that's a 36 inch Zenith from maybe 1998 or 1999. Tube's probably either very dim by now, or has bad color bleeding, with the color white being a shade of green.

Actually, I had about 50 replies within a matter of hours for 27" JVC listed at $60....I was sure it would sit for days.

So you guys think $325 is otta line for an ugly screw-together entertainment center? That was state-of-the-art when Seinfeld was on (the first time). I'll bet they think it's Amish-made, since the Amish watch so much TV.

Maybe if you pay full price for the TV, they'll knock a few bucks off the cabinet.

When I saw the TV was an extra $200, I nearly fell otta my chair! :banana:

You'd have to pay me to haul that stuff off; since the TV is a '90's Zenith and the cabinet is probably particleboard. I think I'll save my money for a color roundie combo.

I can't remember what region; but, I saw a 32" Zenith console for $500 on CL yesterday. Surely, they added that extra zero by mistake.

The best ones are Zenith, of course :) before 1965. After that the stereo is solid state. The tube stereo in these sound wonderful.

I feel sorry for the fellow I'm helping with the TV shop...he has a whole store full of sets that age; he even has a used entertainment center something like that! In his case he will throw it in if you buy the used 32" RCA sitting on it. He's trying to get $130 each for some 90s Zenith consoles. Tough, tough sell.

I had a stereo rack remarkably similar to that entertainment center in design. It was made partially of solid oak trim, oak plywood, and was a stout mofo.

That could be a hardwood entertainment center and worth a little more than what the partical board stuff sells for. Maybe not as much as the asking price, but to put it in perspective, I got fifty clams for my stereo rack which sold in two days on CL.

In his mind, he's thinking about all of the hard work and monetary investment that's been put into his business over the years. He probably can't see giving that stuff away, selling it reasonable, or dumping it because, to him, that would be like flushing the past 50 years down the toilet.

About 15 years ago, I went to an ex-TV and radio repairman's house to see about buying some stuff. His shop was in the backyard and pretty much looked like it did in '68 when he gave it up. His wife showed me to the shop and told me to take whatever I wanted, free of charge. I told her that I appreciated the offer but maybe we should talk to her husband first. She told me he had not used this stuff in 25 years and she wasn't worried about what he thought, it needs to go to someone who can use it. About that time, the old man come hobbling in on his walker and asked his wife what in the hell she thought she was doing in his shop. She said "I'm giving this young man this stuff that you'll never use". He said "Oh no hell you're not, I've got money in this stuff and I'm not giving it away." She tried to reason with him but he was having no part of it. All he was thinking about was how much money he had in the stuff, despite the fact that he hadn't used it in decades. He wanted something like $60 for an old Eico 460 'scope that I feel sure didn't work. I tried to buy a small stack of dirty Sams Photofacts for $10 and he almost ordered me off the property. There was a nice (at one time) high end Atwater Kent console from the '30's that I tried to buy and he wouldn't even talk to me about selling it. "Oh, that's not for sale. I'm fixing that for my Grandkids". His wife looked at me like "yeah, right". The roof just happened to be leaking above where the radio sat; so, everytime it rained, the cabinet went a little more downhill. The old man passed away 2 or 3 years later and his widow put most everything out on the street. Of course, I found out too late (as usual). I went back over there to see if anything was left and got a couple of junky 5 tube AC/DC radios that she'd forgot to throw out. She didn't even remember me.

I had the exact same entertainment center. Actually it was pretty decent with some real wood rather than that Sauder crap. But I don't think I paid half that much for it brand new. It's now sitting in my uncle's garage awaiting the next garage sale.

I usually don't bother to contact sellers like this; but, I couldn't resist this time. I asked them for a model number and also was it tube type or solid state. I'm looking forward to telling them that their late '60's-early '70's GE clock radio is only worth $5-$10, if they are very lucky.

It was too cold to go to the shop; so, I spent much of the day on CL looking for vintage TV's, tube radios, console stereos, etc. I found plenty of stuff of interest but, my goodness, the prices! The links I posted earlier were only a fraction of the overpriced stuff I found.

That's like the guy who called me up about a "1901" Pearce Airo set (I posted pics in the antique radio forum.) He told me about how his dad owns a radio/tv shop in Michigan and had this on the shelf for years. There was obviously some paperwork with it at one time - he was telling me about how Marconi came over from Italy and was associated with Pearce Airo, etc., etc. He also insisted it worked - this is a battery set that, judging by the light rust and whatever else on the coils, pots & tuning cap this thing hasn't been powered up in 50 years at least. The poor guy really thinks he has something, even though others have told him it was incomplete (no cabinet or speaker) and not worth much. Some AKers posted some useful info that I'll give to the man next week. I may offer him $20 for it, as that's all its worth to me - as it would be a shelf queen, passed on to another collector or maybe I'd get around to restoring it years from now. Don't think he's gonna go for that though...

Just make sure you're wearing a bullet proof vest, LOL, when you make the offer!

There are a few consoles around me on CL. Most of them seem to have a more reasonable price.
