Damn,
another great actor gone.

Damn.

Folks remember him from "Jaws" and "The French Connection", but he also was in "Marathon Man", "Sorcerer", and "All That Jazz".

His performance in Marathon Man was exceptional. All That Jazz was ....It's Show Time!

Awwwwwwwwwwww....MAN.

RIP. One of my favorite actors.

He was great. RIP.

Shoot, he did some good movies.

Mr. Scheider was a rare actor. Believable, straightforward and honest in his films. I'll miss him.

Sad to hear, was a great actor. He was certainly believable as the new cop and family man in the little resort town in Jaws - I thought it was another one of Speilberg's great looks at american family life and a big part of Jaws impact for me --

The actors we remember from our youths were, of course, always a little older than we were, so as we are passing through middle age they are getting truly old, and it is inevitable that we start to hear about more and more of them dying. Sad, how this sort of news seems to come thicker and faster with every passing year...

At least these artists leave a legacy of recorded works that will outlive them, and last as long as the media and our memories do. I may just break out the Jaws Laserdisc next time I watch, and raise a toast to another great actor gone! :beerchug:

Jaws was the film I chose to see the first time that I ever took a girl to the movies. She was terrified of the shark soon after the movie got rolling and clung tightly to me throughout the rest of the show. The girl, Tanya, turned out to be my first girlfriend ever.

Enjoyed him in many movies... I think "Blue Thunder" was the first film I remember him from.

Man, and I had just got done watching one of his old movies, 2065. And I loved All That Jazz as one of my favorites and a classic. A sad day ....

Hard to believe he was 75.. He was "not-a-kid, but not old" in "7-Ups" & "Jaws" but-Gulp- They were nearly 35 years ago...

Anyone remember "Sea Quest DSV?" I watched some of that back when it was on TV--mid '90s maybe?

When I read this, the first thing I thought of is "did the Angel of death appear to him as Jessica Lange"?

Produced by Philip D'Antoni of Bullit fame so no surprise there.

The Space Odessey movies, 2001, 2010, were two of my favorites of all time.

R.I.P. Roy... He always played straight up characters.... The first time I saw him was in French Connection... Will never forget the Jaws performance...

I've got The Seven Ups on dvd and 2010 and Jaws on LD, along with Sorcerer and Marathon Man, these movies would never be as good without Roy, you know you're getting older when the stars you grew up with leave the stage forever.

I can't see any of the current crop of actors filling their shoes.

While he was doing the series, Blue Thunder, it was reported in the Orange County, Ca. Register, That he had died. I never read a retraction for that article.

I can still envision that big land yacht Ponitac going like a bat outta hell underneath the elevated tracks in The French Connection and the rather abrupt stop that Chevy made in The Seven-ups.
