Recommend me a Family Movie..........
 

on the 12th of January I'm hiring a minibus and taking my family, sister, brother, their kids, and parents for a day out to various attractions. At the end of the long day I'd like to all sit around my parents new big screen and have us all watch a movie together

It'd need to be fairly engrossing from the beginning because 12 people ranging from 8yo to 74yo won't stand for much before they start to yawn and meander away.

Any takers?

Ice Age 1, March of the Penguins.

Happy Feet! Looks great on a larger screen. Great for kids and pretty funny for most others although the upper end of the scale may not quite appreciate it as much.

Appropriate for all ages.

spencers mountain is a great family film.
night of the grizzly-scenery is beautiful
we are screening in my movie room-"it happened on 5th avenue"and when the kids are asleep, we are watching "more dead than alive" western with clint walker and vincent price.

How about E.T. or Cocoon.

I watched Bridge To Terabithia with my 18 year old daughter and wife and had a tear in my eye near the end. Made by Disney it has great special effects and an excellent story.

I just loved Hairspray(The new remake).Funny,great music,just a happy movie.

I second, third, and fourth ‘Spencer’s Mountain’. Not quite as good as the book but real good.

Any Disney movie with Maurice Chevalia.; ‘IN SEARCH OF THE CASTAWAYS’ being the best.

‘8 Degrees Below’, but be forewarned that there are some sad parts in the movie.

‘Rascal’ if you can find it.

Ahhh... the family movie dilemma, something appropriate for the young ones which doesn't bore the old ones. I would think about Ratatouille or one of the Ice Age movies. If you want to avoid cartoons, I think the Agent Cody Banks movies also work well in this situation.

I 2nd the Incredibles. It's my favorite of the recent animated children's movies & buddy I've seen them all multiple times with a 3y/o in the house.

Don't forget "Finding Nemo" a classic with great graphics.

Third! This movie has it all and will entertain people of all ages. Some terrific action sequences and a KILLER sound track. It's one of my favorite movies.

Finding Nemo gets my vote with a close second going to Ice Age.

Mmm, lots of sugestions there......... Never seen Ice Age. Rocketeer is a good one ......Aquila and the Bee I've never heard of and didn't find much online either. I'll have to check Spencer Mountain........

What is great about The Rocketeer is that any age can watch it and enjoy it. It is one of my favorites from that standpoint. It has just about everything. There are a couple violent scenes but it is either off camera or only briefly shown. If there are real young ones it could be upsetting. Overall though a rollicking good time.

I really liked Akeelah And The Bee,also.Try that spelling and you might have more luck.

I think one that slipped under the wire is Second Hand Lions. Quite possibly
my favorite family movie. Anyone ever seen it?

"Planet Earth" DVDs from BBC or Discovery Channel - set runs about $60, but if this is about experiencing HD in any way, these will grab your whole audience.

I second "Spirited Away", or anything else directed by Hayao Miyazaki (except for Princess Mononoke, which is quite bloody). The most beautiful hand-drawn animation you are likely to see today.

Faces of Death?

That used to be a big hit back when I was with the family. Man I really do miss the Mansons.

I don't forget it living in this town ;) Probably not a good fit for your occasion but nonetheless something that the thread title sparks in my mind is the Journey of Natty Gann from the eighties. Always liked that one, Jack Londonesque with the Disney stamp of approval.

Seriously, anything that comes out of Pixar or Dreamworks is a winner. Cute enough to keep the kids locked in, but clever enough for the adults.

Princess Bride - good for all ages. We used it to test video equipment in the shop and no one EVER was bored after seeing it many, many times.

Time Bandits (with Sean Connery) Delightfully surreal and even has a moral at the end you can all sit around and discuss.

Otherwise, I strongly second Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki who is considered by many the Walt Disney of Japanese anime (only better...)
English voice acting is ok, but best viewed with the original Japanese voice actors and English subtitles. (which is a great subtle ploy to get kids to read more.)

Then there's always the 20th anniversary release of Tron. Digital fun for the whole family.

We just watched Second Hand Lions on a couple of recomedations I read yesterday. Great Movie for kids and adults alike. One of the best family moves I've ever seen. :thmbsp:

A very enthusiastic second motion for Princess Bride. One of our favorites.

I was going to suggest "The Princess Bride", but it looks like someone already beat me to it. So how about "Better off Dead". The name's a little off-putting but the movie's great for all ages. GOOD LUCK!!
