Have been waiting for some time to get a glance at the Canon/Toshiba SED
sets that were to start showing up next year in the US.However,just heard that it's been delayed again and may not hit the US market until '08.Not much could be found in press releases.

A technology that's new to me called FED, by Sony,has been alerted.A blurb is out,but no info to speak of.I'm assuming this is Sony's answer to SED.

FED has been around for about 10 years, but it has failed to go beyond small monochrome displays. I think the company that invented them went out of business. I guess Sony is going to give it a try. These alternative technologies never seem to be able to catch up to the more developed technolgies.

From what I understand, we can expect a new line of (very expensive) Toshiba SED sets this July 2007. I would figure that most people wouldnt consider them until they saw a signifcanly lower price.

The technology sounds exciting, and I do hope it achieves its goal of being one of the first Flat-panel display technologies capable of having reasonable black level, contrast ratio, price, and image fidelity. Sure beats plasma tv's with their washed out colors and contrast saturated madness.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Canon Inc. and Toshiba Corp. have decided to postpone the launch of SED TVs for the second time, the Japanese companies said on Friday, raising doubt over the commercial viability of the new flat televisions.

The two companies, which already delayed the debut of the SED TVs once last year, are now postponing the launch from the final quarter of 2007 to an unspecified later date.

Looks as though SED may never launch because it can't compete with the LCD's falling price.

Yeah,this is not a good sign. Really wanted to see this technology survive.It's really a shame that Canon can't find some company to make the panels. I read somewhere that Samsung might get into the SED camp,but this may be just rumors or speculation.

Where there's child sweatshop labor, there's a way. :sigh:
