one of the largest tv set collections in Europe was discovered near Frankfurt in Germany:

The collection is stored on a place of several thousend square meters deeply in enormous bombproof cellars.

Good Gravy! I would have to buy 30 sets a week to catch up!!!!:D Man, it would cost a fourtune in caps to get them all working.

There are a lot of those underground/aboveground bunker systems in Germany due to the cold war. Our post in Germany had an Huge amout of armour stored in a underground bunker. Seemed to me that the whole mountain was hollowed out. Great place to store stuff.

Personal thoughts on this, comparing his collection to my junk pile, er, collection:
There truly are people more obsessed than I am... and this collector is one of them.
I must be doing something right... I have ONE of the things in the pics (that I can identify). :D
I haven't 1/0000th of this person's (or group's?) space...nor budget.

meanwhile I have got some more informations. This depot of vintage tv and broadcast material belonged to the German Fernmelde Zeugamt, a part of the Deutsche Bundespost. It is the depot where spare parts and vintage electronic devices were stored throughout the last century, starting with prewar material up to now.

The place of the material is more than 15,000 square meters.
Today the status of this depot is not really clear. I think it might be part of the museum of communication in Frankfurt.

Beautiful!Beautiful! Oh man, I'm still drooling...Whenever I get to enter, or see a place like that, I feel like I am in paradise. The people in charge of that place are indeed very German, because it looks very organized, and everything seems to have been well cared. Now, I thought this collection www.televisoresantigos.com.br was big ( 700+ sets ). It belongs to a friend of mine, but it's located on a small 3 store building. It's conforting to know that this collection in Germany is in this underground bunker - I believe it made it very safe, bombproof? Congratulations to the people who did the job of preserving all that stuff, if the world had more and more people like that, it sure would be a better place.

Reminds me of Bern, Switzerland, which we visited several years ago. Their Museum fur Kommunikation includes the national postal service and electronic communications. The displays showed some beautiful vintage radios and TVs.

How much would you pay for this Lorenz Autophon, with TV, multi-band radio, and wire recorder?

Well, drat! I took a day trip to Bern from Geneva last year, when I was there on business - enjoyed it, but didn't know they had a comms museum - would REALLY have enjoyed that!

How much would I give for that Lorenz ? Would my soul be enuff ? Nah, hell,,,,They'd prolly want the Lincoln convertible, too...

The large tv collection is not part of this community. But members are able to visit it. If I have the opportunity, I will try to visit the collection in the next year together with my son. Then I can give some more informations about it.
