The CRT frame (or bezel?) is of pure wood. No plastic. The set has the A63-11X color picture tube which might be equivalent to the 90° 25ap22 tube types. More pictures of the PALcolor 708T you can find on my web page:

Can you tell us how popular was that Kuba Komet set?
Someone here said they think it was a product of it's time but I get the impression it's something only German's would have liked. Now, I have nothing against German's as I have a little German blood myself, but they have seemed to me to have styles that are very cold and peculiar only being rivalved by Saudi Arabian styles that seem to take all attention away from the people and put it towards the object. Our popular American styles of the 50's/60's were more subdued in comparison and therefore were less overshadowing to the people around them.
Have you seen the German couple on Saturday Night Live? They will be on again soon. They depict the German's as being totally into their own personal whimsical desires without any concern for others past recieving compliments or any sort of admiration. I find it to be hilarious as that's how many German's have come across to me. Do they seem that way to you?

It depends on the times. I like very much the tv sets and radios from the mid 1950's and late 1950's. And I like very much the first generation of color tv sets from 1967 through 1970 with wooden warm-colored housings.

I am a typical North-German. People here said especially the North Germans are cool and they don't like to give express to their feelings. The Americans (as far as I can say) like to make compliments and they like to receive compliments. We usually get embarrassed by compliments as they are usual with the U.S. people.

We live in one world, and we make the experience that we are all different people. There is no right or wrong, there are only you and me and they and them. And everyone is alright with his or her feelings and conventions.

Wow! That is exactly what comes to mind when I think of my dearest German descendants!

This next Saturday Night Live will have that popular German couple showing the cool and kind modern Germans in their environment. It would be so great if you could watch it and tell us if they are accurate in portraying the cool German's.

I am going to play it in my Toronado when I take my girlfriend to see Rocky's new movie which I expect to be great as I saw Sylvester on Jay Leno and he is much more impressive than I used to imagine. I think he is a pretty cool man.

Hi Steve, the set is gone fur EUR 250.00 today (shipping is EUR 80.00). This is a very low price in comparison to the historic value of this set. But this also indicate that there are only few tv collectors which are interest in early color tv sets.

I have observed the collectors community, and I think there are only a handful of collectors with interest in early color tv sets. My latest acquisition is a Philips K7-chassis set with a 20" delta tube. I have to fix it.

The performance is bad. The picture is somehow wishywashy, and the set is more than those of other brands susceptible to repair. This might indicate that the German engineers were not so familiar with color television technique like the American engineers with much more experience.
Usually the first German color tv sets not as reliable as the American sets. Power consumption was between 300 and 400 watts, and due to the very compact housing, the heat accumulate inside. The heat on the back side is hot enough to make fried eggs.
The PAL system was famous for its true colors (in comparison to NTSC). But the problems of bad reliability, of control drifts and misadjustment made them worser than NTSC sets of this era.

The next Telefunken PALcolor 708 is on 'bay, #290060892061. This set is in worse condition. A hole was burnt in the board under the RGB output tubes and the chassis board is brittle. This is what I meant in my last message.
