Ugh.:puke:I was just about to post this, but I was busy trying to dig up this old thread here, where it was asked if anyone has actually ever seen a fish-tanked tv: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=71263&highlight=fish+tank
I've had this Emerson console for sale on Craigslist for a long time, finally someone e-mails me saying how much they wanted it but something about the e-mail just said fish-tank to me, so I deleted it. Now this set is blocking my front door, and I would like nothing more than to give it away free to anyone who will preserve it, but I had to turn down $40 for it last week just because I thought it might become a fish tank or dog bed some other screwy object. :thumbsdn:

Been there, done that
The fish tank thing that is.
Twenty five years ago, the set was shot and the cab was some nice looking mahogany. since I liked fish and wood better than busted TVs, my choice was obvious.

Now I know better, but old TVs still don't get the juices pumping like old audio gear :dunno:

I emailed him to ask if he still had the insides from that TV, and got this response.

I have the speaker to this one and will have to look to see if I kept the rest. I have another antique tv in the garage that is still in one piece. If you are interested I will email you the model and you can get out your dumbass wallet and make a bid.

What salesmanship!!!

This guy's either a douchebag, a prick, or probably both.

But IF you really want the set, give him a call, find out what it is, and make a lowball offer. Heck, if He told me he had an old console stereo with Scott and JBL stuff in it, I'd probably offer him $50 for it :naughty: :naughty:

Well, maybe I provoked him just a little. My email to him suggested that a complete television might be worth more (to some people anyway) than a dumbass fish tank.

I later invited him to send me the make & model of the other TV in his garage. It's located on the wrong coast for me, but you never know.

Oh, my. The other TV in his garage is a Dumont RA105 Teleset.

http://www.tvhistory.tv/1949-DuMont-RA105.JPG

I gather that the RA105 came in both console and tabletop cabinets. I don't know if this one is a console tv/radio/phono like the one pictured above, or a tabletop. Keen looking set, either way.

This dude is located in NY state. Safe shipping from there to my crib in WA state would probably run around $500. And I'm on a strict no-more-consoles diet until I finish restoring my CTC-11 and find a place to put it.

If anyone in the NY area is interested, I would recommend contacting him through the original eBay link and innocently asking whether he has any more old TVs lying around the place. I don't care that much about the Sylvania, but the DuMont seems like too nice a set to be made into an aquarium -- and then possibly junked when the aquarium doesn't sell.

I'm sure the new owners will be dazzled when the legs snap off under the weight of 80Lbs of water and the bric-a-brac arranged on top. God i hate hipsters.
