Weird! That brings back some memories; my town had a Singer store when I was small (mid-60's), and even then, I was shocked to find Singer TV sets and vacuum cleaners besides the sewing machines. I also seem to recall them doing some defense work?

I have seen power window switches from Jeeps of the '80s that were made by Singer. Anything for a buck? You know, in the old downtowns where you had a small department store, a hardware store, the Singer store, a Western Auto, Sears & Wards, a couple tire stores, plus the regular tv shops...there were a lot of places to buy a TV set!

I have one of those little guys-Think they were made by Mitsubishi. Pretty good performer, they competed against Sony's 5-303W. Heavy little guy. You woulda thought that the heads of RCA, Zenith, GE, et al, would have had the R&D guy in their office wanting to know where the hell RCA's 5" transistor set was, the day after these things hit the shelves...

Buddy of mine got a Singer cassette recorder (made by Panasonic) for Christmas back in '70. He used it every day for over a decade!

Those little Singers are really neat looking sets indeed. Singer also offered a rechargable battery pack for that set-- which was actually bigger than the TV itself..!

Yep, I once worked for Singer Link in Binghamton NY about 25 years ago. We built airplane simulators for pilot training for the military. Bombers and jet fighters. Did the video cameras and displays. This was back before the days of decent computer simulations, so we literally built scale models of the areas around airports and had small mirror and optics probes strapped onto video cameras that would move to simulate the position of an aircraft above this area. Turns out dead flys were about the same size as aircraft parked at the airport so we sometimes would place a few dead flys on taxiways and terminal buildings... And would look really strange to the pilot in the simulator... :D

I worked on high resolution video displays, what would be like today's 1080i resolution. 50Mhz video bandwidth RGB.
