Thought I should share it with you guys. Below are pics of a peculiar solid - state TV set made here in Brazil by Philco in 1969. It has a very "Jetsons" style looking. No, it's not mine, although I would certainly like to have one of these. It's for sale on the net, and since it has a different look, and from what I have been told was only made here, thought others should see this curious set.

Thanks for posting that-a new one on me! This would seem to be highly collectible to me-it is as interesting as some Predicta's, at least.
Was Philco of Brazil associated with the Ford Motor Company, or did they just own Philco in the US (and, I assume, Canada)?
And, one more thing, Captain: did you ever have any luck with that Philco flyback from a year or so ago? Have been wondering.

Yes, Philco of Brazil was owned too by Ford. After Ford lost interest in the TV manufacturing business, the brazilian Philco plant was sold to a group, than to another, until finally it was bought by one of the biggest financial institutions here. They maintain the factory producing TVs and other electronic gear, and the products are still sold under the Philco brand.
You won't believe, but since I got that flyback I went into a lot of financial trouble, so I hadn't been able to perform the restoration that my beautiful Philco 56 deserves.

That is a very cool-looking television. Thanks for sharing the pics. I would love to have one of those. :thmbsp:
This could become a problem. Since getting that Phillips Discoverer "Astronaut Helmet" recently, I keep noticing unusual-looking TV sets, and thinking about getting them... I'm already running out of space with audio gear. Televisions, which are even larger? My wife would kill me (or divorce me). EEEK! Someone stop me! ... :D

That's a really cool set.. Thanks for the pictures! So Philco is still building sets in Brazil? Hmmm... :scratch2: Rather have one of those than some crappy Chinese box...
