Anybody else remember this movie? It's a 1953 French film directed by Henri Clouzot & starring Yves Montand. Somewhere in South America a US oil company hires 4 down & out guys to deliver several tons of nitroglycerin needed to put out a burning oil well.

I saw this maybe 15 years ago at some art film screening & liked it then. Saw the dvd at the library last week & watched it again. Wow! Even though I knew what happened (more or less) there were parts where I was on the edge of my seat. Highly recommended. I checked Amazon & someone gave it a bad review because 'it was in french & I couldn't understand what was going on.' Huh? Most of the film doesn't need any dialogue at all.

Now I have to look for Sorcerer - the Friedkin remake of Wages of Fear.

I watched this about a year ago (w/subtitles) and loved it, it was freakin intense!

Both versions of the film are brilliant! The remake by Friedkin (of Exorcist fame) as noted, entitled Sorcerer also has a chilling soundtrack by the second incarnation of Tangerine Dream (Froese, Franke, Baumann). The soundtrack only adds to the intensity of the movie. Friedkin wrote that had he known of TD before making The Exorcist, he would have used them for the soundtrack versus Mike "Tubular Bells" Oldfield. Wonder how that made ol' Mike feel?

I've seen "Wages Of Fear" a few times. Exellent movie!! Very intense. The Freidkin re-make is not as good IMHO....but definetly worth watching.

I haven't seen Wages Of Fear, but I've seen The Sorceror. That bridge scene is intense! (The one on the cover of the soundtrack album.) I guess I need to check out the original upon which it was based.

"Sorcerer" (not "The Sorcerer") is a cult classic, though it tanked in the box office. Great movie. You can find the DVD on eBay. The scene crossing the bridge is amazing.
