Anyone have or know of an operating Heathkit rectangular color TV? (just curious) [posting similar question in all 3 TV forums].

I built one in 1975 (would that be GR-2000 or GR-2001??). Eventually sold it to a friend who cracked the CRT neck while carrying it out. I do miss the thing! One time, I came home to find the TV on - it turned out the dog could turn it on and change channels accidentally by hitting the big square buttons with his tail.

Installing the CRT and doing convergence from scratch was interesting. The built-in dot generator had the dots too close to figure out which RGB spots were which, so I tuned in Bozo's Circus and did the static adjustment until there was just one Bozo.

I am curious where member "Heathkit TV" has gotten to. He was quite active at one time. Maybe you could go in the member list & fetch his email? As I recall he had a Yahoo group on these sets.

I know member Veg-O-Matic used to have one-a sharp looking set. There were 2 in the local paper a few years back but I had no room so let them pass.

I always wanted to build one, but never could afford the kit. Now most of them are just to far away, to expensive, or I would be afraid that not all the parts would be there. I wanted one of the gr2000 or 2001 sets, which ever was the last before the Zenith era.

Maybe some day the stars will line up and I will find one close by that I can afford.
