I'm sure most of you have spotted the old TV sets on Fox's "MAD TV" show Saturday nights. In short clips just before commercials. Usually 1960's models.

I think I know... I haven't watched that in a long time, but I recall noticing.

This does bring to mind: Anyone remember another wee-hours-of-the-morning Saturday night show called SCTV Network? It was another variety comedy, and they would open the show by throwing dozens of vintage TVs (60s sets, mainly) off the roof and show them hitting the sidewalk.

Earlier this year on Late Night with Conan O'Brien they segued into commercials with the CT-100 production/alignment line shot. The one Steve D has on his site.

I remember SCTV very well. A lot of todays big names in comedy passed through that show. Loved "The Count" :bat: and his "Monster Chiller Horror Theater" in "3D".
Those TV sets hitting the ground were just so much junk when they did that show some 25 years ago. Now it kinda hurts to see it, as they're becoming so rare.
I used to watch that show on a 15" magnavox B&W set (1962 model I think). I salvaged it from a guys back yard when I was in high school. Was full of sticky stuff (Coke maybe.....I hope) so I took it apart and hosed it out with hot water in grandmas' back yard, let it dry in the sun for a few days and put it back together. Worked like a champ for several years. I had to be careful though....if I didn't have the non-polarized plug in the right way, I got a nasty tingle off of the metal case.

I haven't watched Mad TV in years; I am a fan of SCTV. I saw it first in the late 80s or early 90s when it was actually being run late at night on Maryland Public Television. I got copies of lots of it a few years ago when NBC ran it in the "Later" time slot. That version didn't have the traditional TV tossing opening, though.

I will always remember David Letterman tossing things off a building on Late Night, and the time they dropped a bowling ball off the roof and through the screen of an operating TV set.

Watch virtually any modern TV show, and you'll see virtually peice of electronics shown is "vintage."

My girlfriend really likes Sex and the City, and from the little bit I've seen, the producers don't realize any electronics were made after 1975. Seems like all the telephones are rotary, and I've seen an old Philco-Ford set, a Chromacolor II, and an old GE AA(?) chassis set. I think the funniest part of the show is seeing someone once change the channel on a MANUALLY-TUNED set with a remote control. This wasn't a space command set, or an ultrasonic remote.

I wonder, in 30 years if they'll still be using the same old Zeniths and RCAs as props or if they'll be simulating TV pictures on flat flat screen sets. (Which of course, they won't have to go scrounging through the trash of thrift stores for those. They can just get the sets out of network exec's homes after they throw their coke can at the screen after they get pissed off at the dribble they approved for their own networks!!)

I've seen them. They also show them in between skits. MAD TV always had dose old TV sets ever since the show started back in 95.
