Hi, guys. No pictures yet, because set doesn't arrive until August. Howeve, I want to announce that I finally located, after over 30 years of looking, a replacement for my family's old original 1950 model 6T74 16" console tv with full doors. It is a handsome set, even needing some case work, as it does. I'm only going to lightly touch it up, nad re build the set to perfection.Already have a place to proudly display it in my living room.... :banana:

I've often thought of doing the same thing......my family had the last of the roundies (don't remember the chassis #), which was replaced in 1977 by a GE 25" console with VIR.

Hi. I hope you realize your fondest wishes. I am very nostalgic, and I spent manny happy hours watching that tv.Programming was great then.

Used to watch favorites like:
"Captain Kangaroo", "Fireball XL 5", "Superman", "Jonnny Ginger show", "Milky's circus", "Circus Boy", "The littleest tramp", "Sing along with Mich", "I love Lucy", "Honeymooners", "Andy Griffith show", "Leave it to Beaver", "Dennis the Mennace", "Soupy Sales show", just to name a few.......... :thmbsp: That's when programming was king...........

My chassis no is KCS 47A.16GP4A picture tube.

Here it is! Polaraman is doing the pony express! :smoke: I am tied up with school(MBA) at the moment and will not be able to deliver till after the semester. The picture tube is good and the flyback looks to be in good shape. It was only missing the on/off knob. I got another 6-T-74 in the Tv shop mess I got in Charlotte. Bill will be getting that set also.

Here is the other set. My camera died before I could get some more pics. I will take them tomorrow after my camera charges up. The face of the CRT is cracked. It is under vacuum ?? but has no emission.

Interesting thought to find the set your family had. In late 50's/early 60's (through high school) we had an Admiral B&W 21" consolette of some kind - can't really remember the details - I think it was a light color cabinet with a modern spindle-leg design. Don't think I've seen one like it around here. I do remember going to the drugstore to test tubes. Can't remember for sure how we got rid of it - maybe gave it to friends when we got our first color set in 1966. Anybody have pix of an Admiral (or an Admiral brochure) like that?

Thanks for offering - I'm afraid I don't remember it very clearly. I took a quick look in the few slides I have digitized and it's not there - will have to do a search to see if it's in some old snapshots, but that probably won't happen for another month.

We had a Motorola color roundie for my first TV. We were poor and I do not know how my folks afforded such a television. I have pictures all over the room but NONE of the television. I spent many an hour watching cartoons on that TV. That is my motivation to rescue the roundie color sets. There is just not a better TV to watch toons on. It was also the TV that I watched all the moon launches. Wish I had a picture of it. We had it till my parents split in 1978. I do not know what happened to it. :tears:

We had a late 50's color Admiral roundie when I was growing up. I think Steve Hoffman said he had the same model growing up too. Black metal cabinet that stood up on gold legs. Ugly looking thing, but man! Did it ever have a sensitive tuner and a great picture!

Did the pictured roundie with doors that started this thread come from North Carolina? Reason being I know where one is for $50. I have kind of had my eye on it for a while but thought the price might be a little high. Not sure. The set is 100% complete with some surface dings here and there, other than that very clean. I am hoping this is not the set because my girlfriend has heard me talk about so much she said she was going to get it for my birthday July 10.

Really if it is the set no matter, I had my chance I guess. I really want a double d mask roundie badly but I hate the space factor of consoles, so that held me back from the set as well. I cant seem to find a good tabletop set in my area...

The one you see with doors is the subject set. It was the model my family had. The set isn't that big. I feel the price you mentioned is very reasonable. Hey, I paid ten dollars more than that for mine, and I'm not upset. Further, the extra junker that Polaraman is bringing me may have better doors. If so, I'll be exchanging them.

Now, the next question: Can somebody locate any original stuff for this set, such as owner's mannual, shipping tags, display tags?
Since I am getting this as my favorite tv, I'd really like to get as much for it as I can..... Thanks. Bill Cahill

Oh, by the way, thanks all for your support of my insanity. I love the old stuff. Besides, I first got my interest in tube equipment as a child whenever our tv was serviced. I cut my eye teeth of electronics on that tv. So, it has a special place in my heart, and memory.

My grandma had an old RCA victor, that died in the 60's. Was a door model, but unlike most I've seen, it has a curved front to it, and full length doors. Never bothered to get the model #, though ISTR that the sticker said a 16GP4 was the CRT. The 'guts' were removed years ago and it was turned into a very nice bookcase, basically a few shelves were put in it.

Never saw one like it again. Oh well...

The time ticks on the clock, and my excitement grows......

Well, in just a few weeks I'll have my long sought after family tv again. Thanks to Polaraman, of course. I'm devising ways to improve the physical condition of cabinetl

:tears: Polaraman just gave the bad news. He's been called to duty for the next three weeks, so I won't be seeing my tv for some time. Not his fault, but, it sucks. I hate the army!!

As usual with the Army, you can't plan a single thing. They control me and my paycheck. Sometimes it is great and then there are times that are bad. Having to work three out of five weekends stinks! It could be worse and I could be in Iraq or Afghanistan. Only 19 months to go till I hit 20 years. Retirement is around the corner and I can't wait.

I know how you feel. This is one of those more often times the army stinks. It ruins both our plans. I know where I'm hoping to put it near the front door in the living room.The other I'll bring in to swap parts, best doors, etc.... I suspect after cleaning, your doors will be in better shape than mine. I have another kcs 47 that needs your speker, and the red button for cabinet power light.

Actually, right now, the place is a little worse. I just took in a major repair for someone, a wreck of an 11 tube 1941 Philco radio with a ton of rotted rubber wiring. It is am, early fm, and one sw band. Nice upright cabinet with a pull up door to cover control panel. Knobs are four large thumb wheels. Anyone got a schematic for this? A tube chart? Help!!!!!!

I also had to delay my Texas trip. I made some plans with peverett and Charlie. Hope to be leaving this Saturday for Texas. Charlie and I are planning another TV shop raid. It might be the last time before the TV shop is torn down. The building was condemmed after the hurricane. Hopefully the bulldozer does not get there before we do.

It's been some time, now, and I hope our friend is o.k. Looking at our notes, he was going to a condemed tv repair shop in Texas. I hope he hasn't gotten hurt. He;s generally good at getting back at me, but, he hasn't replied to any of my calls, and, e mails, so, I'm concerned about him.

As far as getting ready, I now have a good place ready for sets in my living room. John Folsom is also looking forward to meeting him. I also found an antique dealer with a large warehouse who claims to have manny tube type antique tv's and radios he wants to get rid of. Prices I don't know, yet, but, sounds interesting. I'd like Polaraman and myself to gou out there, and nose around.

Polaraman, whereever you are, I surely hope you are o.k. You all call me, now, ya heah?

I'm on a public library computer. I will not be back home till the 25th. I do not have a laptop that I travel with.

TV shop raid was successful. It is not going to be around much longer.
