Anyone here seen this movie? Some friends of mine recommeded it to me and after watching it I feel as though I am going to have to kick their ass. To those who have seen it can you explain that stupid ending? This movie just eclipsed Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind as being the dumbest movie I have ever seen.

Ony movie is saw of that name was the animated Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. That was a good movie. I've not even heard of the movie you saw. Sorry you had to see sucha crap movie.

Isn't that the one with the flying steel ball that whips out some small jagged swords and slams into folks' foreheads???

That would be the movie, what got me was how before the movie starts "the tall man" talks about how successful and popular the movie was upon its release. This movie supposedly has a big cult following, I can assure you though, I will not be joining them.

the trick to the cult following is you have to watch it knowing it sucks ass and laugh your head off... some assistance may be requred... and a big group of friends helps alot to... beleave it or not there are 4... maybe 5 of them... one day last summer me and some friends watched 1-4... very funny... and yes one of the worst moves ever made

That movie came out while I was in high school.One of the stars,Mike Baldwin was in my graduating class.Dumbest movie ever,BTW.

The only thing I did find intersting about the movie was that in the living room of jody's there were some nice looking tower speakers but I have no idea what they were. That Barracuda was pretty sweet as well.

What's to explain? You were looking for deep inner meaning perhaps? It's a summer scare movie, no better or worse than the majority of them. I like it though and have great memories of when I first saw it, at a drive-in in Fresno, with a girl named Tammy.

As well as I remember, "Phantasm" wasn't even really all THAT scary- memorable really, only, for the rather odd characters who played in it.

It was supposed to play out like a nightmare, you know, all out of order. It's biggest problem was the only people who watched it were awake and just thought it was a random abutment of scenes. I have a friend who still thinks it was fantastic.

I was 14 - no moped yet - late night at a friends - Phantasm - one heck of a scary bike ride home.

Having seen parts of it since I believe I was the right age.

Phantasm is one of my favorite all time horror movies. Plot? not really. Acting? None here. Oscar winning special effects? No mention of Lucas. But it is what it is, and it doesn't try to be anything else. It's a cheese flick you watch on a saturday night when there is nothing else to watch. I loved it!!

Yeah, I kinda got the "Stream-of-conciousness" shtick, but it was still sort of a not very good flick. However, we ARE talking about it nearly 30 yrs down the road, musta made SOME impression on a bunch of us...

Same here - I was about the same age and it scared the crap out of me at the time. I wouldn't open a closet door for months after that without someone else around :sigh:

oh man.... I hate to admit that I have Phantasm 1,2, & 3. I would have to say it scared the hell out of me when I was a kid in high-school. Watching it now, it looks "dated" and stupid. However..... watch the first Halloween or Friday the 13th. Pretty tame compared to todays standards.....

For those that do like the movie, can you offer any resonable explanation as to how brothers "mike" and "jody" fought "the tall man" and their friend "reggie" was killed by him. Then at the very end it shows that "mike" had actually been living with "reggie" the entire time and that his brother "jody" had been dead for two years. "reggie" then tells "mike" it was a nightmare but as "mike" goes back up to his room he is attack by the "dwarfs"? I mean did I just miss something here or what?

Considering the era it was made, it prolly made PERFECT sense if you'd had a toke or 3....98 % of us took a hit every now & then back when, the other 2% were in denial...<grin>

LOL....................I guess I shouldnt be too hard on the film, its just before I rented it I read the back of the dvd cover which featured an "over hyped" description of the movie and a 3 1/2 star rating so I was expecting more....but who am I to judge I have been a big fan of The Wraith since I was about 8.

First movie date was "Brother From Another Planet" & 3rd was Terminator but that is another story.

there were some movies in the early 70's that were made in France, called Phantasm, but not horror flicks...some kind of mystery stuff...the guy drived his Citroen and it could fly...he wore a mask ala phantom of the opera...
