Hi All,

My parents bought this RCA XL-100, Model no. GR729W, new in 1973 (when I graduated from high school!!) and used it throughout the 70's and early 80's. I do remember it being somewhat tempermental in the mid 80's after they moved to Rowland Heights east of L.A.

It has been sitting in my Mom's upstairs bedroom unused since the early 90's IIRC. I think there were some problems with it so I have not tried to turn it on or do anything with it. My dad passed away in 2004 and mom doesn't want it around any more.

I'm posting it here (or it should be moved?) for anyone to tell me if there is an interest in this (looked on a search and saw the xl-100 is a mixed bag). It would be there for the picking up to an AK'er who could take it away and give it a good home or repair it. Maybe put in a donation to AK.

I'd like to help you out with it Bart, but I am out of room for extra sets. I've got about 4 too many and I can no longer navigate my own workshop.

I'm more of a tube tv guy, but If I had the room I'd probably come and snatch that set up just because they make such a damn good picture!

I'd get it if I could, But I don't have transportation just yet (have a '62 Corvair van but it's not ready to drive just yet, have to do some wiring work).

If it's in danger of being thrown out, I could probably find a safe place to stick it until someone else can give it a permanent home. But hopefully someone who does want it permanently will speak up first!

Just curious....I have an RCA XL-100 from 1991, simple 25" table top model, still works fine to this day....is this the same basic set or does RCA just keep using the same model names for continuity?

Domino, you guessed right. Names like XL-100 and Colortrak got used for decades, on many different chassis'. A lot of water had gone under the bridge between the early 70s version (a sea-change for RCA, and very popular-also a tough old bird as lots of them are still in use) and your version, which is still a decent set. The most noticeable difference might be that the old set was modular, with many seperate circuit boards instead of one big one. By the 80s components had shrunk and the industry went back to one chassis again.

Pulling up this zombie thread to say that I still have this but need to get it out of the house now due to some remodeling. Pics were lost but will try to shoot a few new ones tomorrow. If there is anyone located in the SoCal area who would like this, let me know. No charge, just help me get it down cause its on the 2nd floor.

I'll also post a similar in the classifieds.

It's an XL100 console with a tilt out control panel. Not sure if it works at all since it hasn't been fired up in at least 10 years.

The TV is now down on our porch so real easy to get it loaded into whatever vehicle you may have.
