First, the disclaimer. I am president of the Delaware Valley Historic Radio Club which runs this show in May and September. For those that may not have been here before, this is becoming a show-to-be-at. A photo below will give you an idea of the crowd.
Now for the finds. I will divide these in to four threads so I can keep track of them in my normal confusion. 3 tonight, 1 tomorrow.
I arrived on our "unofficial" start day, Friday. It was about 1/3 full already.
Being one of about 5 tv collectors in the club of over 100 members, early is good! On average, not many sets show up as this a very radio oriented meet. It turns out that all of these sets came from a service shop in Lancaster, PA. I bought them from two different dealers.
I walked up and was immediately told of some "NIB" sets and others. There they were on a table and still in a van. The threads are;
1- RCA 21T9157 (the first thread) RCA 21" metal case BW
2- Motorola 12VT13B Not new in box, but spectacular
3- Scott Mirror-Tone (?) UCD 10151 with thread tomorrow when I get pix
4- Motorola (a Saturday find) 1478 (?) Unopened!
The RCA is a pedestrian blond metal tabletop cabinet which has the vertical, neck-surround chassis more common to the metal portables of the day. It does have a transformer. VHF only. Very economy.
It was in the box you see, which was torn in many places for viewing, but has all the stickers, hang tags and instructions. The power cord is unwrapped.
I am doing a power up on these on a variac to see what happens. 60v for about half an hour, then creep up for another half hour.
The RCA gave sound at 80v and pix at 100v. At 120v, you see what I got. Full HV, but height problems. Height and linearity are inside and the adjustments did not help. The height control is touchy and some caps are probably in order.
No schematic here for this one. I cannot find a focus control and it needs a bit of adjusting.
I'm sure to create discussion on using the variac to start, but my thought is that I can get more information on the condition right away using it and then work from there. They are full of paper caps, but they seem to be holding. If these were truely rare sets, it would be different.
