...Caught this one this evening on FX, I think. The blurb on it was "Medical students get persued by inbred cannibals in West Virginia. Goody goody gumdrops, methinks, a cross between "Deliverance" and that creepy episode of the "X-files" about the inbred family that rode around in a '58 Cadillac that the radio kept playing "Wonderful, Wonderful". Might have been a pretty fair diversion for a Sunday afternoon, except the thing was filmed/videotaped so dark, there was almost nothing to see. I understand about darkness lending an aura of mystery & foreboding & all that sort of happy horseshit, but PUH-LEEZE !!! Even the scenes that were outside in the sunlight were dark...Every now & then, you'd see the hideous deformed "boogermen" for about 5 seconds, or catch a glimpse of a severed hand or ear or somesuch. About the only thing that saved it was that the female leads were both well-endowed, & both were wearing lo-cut tops that were a couple sizes too small. However, since the thing was too hard to follow since you couldn't see what was going on, & the director was a devotee' of the herky-jerky school of camera work, I found myself hoping for the female leads to both be dispatched quickly, and one of 'em was. And no, I DON'T have the contrast/brightness control on my TV turned too high-or low- this turkey was simply TOO DARK.

Y'know, they probably could've left off the qualifier "in West Virginia", and we still would've figured that's where the inbred cannibals were from :-)

To all AK Southerners... just kidding, JUST KIDDING!!! Indeed besides being born south of the Mason-Dixon line myself, my paternal forebears (miners all) trace their roots to WVA themselves. There's even a Hardy County in WVA.

I remember going to West Virginia once, & one little valley we went to was so narrow & steep, they only had the sun over them from about 1130 to 3 each day...It was daylight & all, but still kinda weird..WVA is a strange place-you have the "inbred Southern redneck mountain types, to be sure, but in a lot of ways, it allies itself more w/Ohio & Pennsylvania. You saw neighborhood bars, which are more typical of Northern industrial towns than down here.

Actually, I LOVE films that show the world what (they think) rednecks are like. I've seen some folks that match the descriptions that I see on film!

Growing up, people told me that I didnt talk like a local kid. My reply was: My parents are college educated, and wouldn't stand for any slang. I know all the words and phrases, though.

I have a pal from Sweden that comes to me when he hears some local 'colorful phrasing' that he doesen't understand. I translate.

It DOES kinda p*ss me off every once in a while that us Southern Appalachian folks are the only "ethnic/minority" group its ok to make fun of. Tell a dago, spic, sheeny,or coon joke nowadays & OMIGAWD !! Call out the Sensitivity Police !! We got an unreconstructed Bigot on our hands...But didja hear the one about BillyJoeTomBob, the clown from Tennessee? An' evverbuddy about breaks down, laughin' their asses off..Just another reason to DESPISE the jackasses who make the rules on this crap...

I wonder if Whitehall was tuning in? My 14 year old son and I had a blast watching a few minutes of this waste of celluloid -- how could we resist such a tease description?

Yeah, well, the pneumatic actresses in their too-tight lo-cut tops were reason enuff to watch it...MAYBE, just MAYBE they MIGHT fall out, have a "Wardrobe Malfunction"....<grin>...Well, we can always HOPE, now can't we ?!?
