Is the NTE replacement of the original 2SC41 much more thermally stable? I'm working on my 8-301W and was wondering if it's worth it to replace it so the set wouldn't have any vertical problems.

The service access on thic TV is wonderful. I'm amazed at how easy it is to get the TV apart without having extra screws when you are done putting it back together. :) The TO-3 transistors are easy to remove and easy to get at. The boards fit in the edge connectors so are easy to remove and have the wire connections labeled on the silkscreening. I'm replacing all the electrolytics with modern ones. Some of them were bulging and some wern't. I like the look of old electrolytics, but they are usually the issue in these old transistor TVs. I'm awaiting on more electrolytics, especially axial leaded ones on the CRT PCB.

The diodes used in the flyback, X32, X33, and X34, according to the Sams, can they be replaced with 1N4007 diodes? X32 is a damper, X33 is a 85V rectifier, and X34 is a boost rectifier. Seems like replacing them with 1N4007 diodes would be fine, but I just wanted to ask and make sure.

I ordered Xicon general purpose electrolytics and am replacing all the electrolytics. I replaced the large filter capacitors in the power supply with Sprague TVA electrolytics. I never bothered testing the old ones for ESR, I just changed them out completely. Maybe replacing the 2SC41 with an NTE part? Would an NTE part have better thermal characteristics than the Sony 2SC41?

Well, I finally got the rest of the electrolytic capacitors I needed. All electrolytic capacitors are fully replaced. Upon reassembling the HV section I see the top lead is broken off. I tried to solder it but it's broken right at the base of the glass nipple. These tubes are quite ratre, aren't they? I suppose I could use a dremel and grind down the nipple and possibly I might be able to attach it. Thankfully, tubesandmore has them. Anyone have the datasheet to these tubes?
