Wow remote, manuals, EVERYTHING! I love that slide out chassis. That looks as though as it would be a dream to work on.

Someone should save that set. Pretty damn cool, and not many heath sets left. A little far from me though :(

Sections of TV on seprate boards, swing out chassis, convergence controls on the front in drawer?? Hell of a deal considering unassembled same tv went for big bucks recently, YOU got better deal since looks very well taken care of, with original manuals to boot!! Please keep us updated on restore.

The BIN seems a tad optimistic to me but...

I went ahead and bid on it as I was afraid it might end up on the curb! (Like I need another one of these) (I already have a house-sized GR-2001 in a double door cabinet as well.) It was close by and in near mint cond with everything so I could not pass on it. Also nostalgia got me two ways, First, I built the same model in '79 for a friend of the family and always wanted one for myself. However a 16 year old kid back then would find it hard to fork over 695.00 for the tv and another 280.00 for the cabinet!
Secondly, the house where it was at was 1 mile from the raft bar! Home of the raft burger! (there was a big write up in the Detroit News about that place in the early 90's) It was one of the best places in Michigan for burgers. I was hoping it was still there and it was, so on the way back it was burgertime with a nice view of anchor bay!
I hadn't been in that area in 13 years and somehow nothing has really changed, I like that :)
Anyhow, I will get the beast working and post some pics!

Glad its going to a good home. That's a pretty nice looking cabinet, especially by 1979 standards. Is it missing the control door?

I always thought Heath sets were "kinda" Zenith, but that set doesn't seem to look anything like a Zenith, other than well-made. Sure didn't know they were built in Benton Harbor, MI! That is fairly close to Chicago... :scratch2:

This may have been before Heath was bought by Zenith...at this time Heath may have been owned by Schlumberger. I think later Heath kit sets incorporated or were based on Zeniths when they were owned by them.

This is the RCA style one with the scr's and of course they were bad. After replacing those and giving the crt a zap to bring up the blue gun it looked pretty good. Mind you it was on lousy rabbit ears in my basement as I was a few feet shy of the cable line.

I built a very similar one in 1975 - I recognize some of the boards with the chassis pulled out. It also had the SCR horizontal. I never had a problem with it except that the little electrostatic speaker on the remote would burn out about once a year. Greatest moment was first firing it up, and finding the static convergence so far out that you couldn't tell whaich dot belonged with which. I turned on WGN, and adjusted until there was only one Bozo on the screen. Sometimes we would come home and find the dog (German shepherd) watching TV. At first, I thought it might be his collar jingling in the ultrasonic range, then one day we saw he turned it on by accidentally hitting the large square buttons with his tail.

I sold it to someone from work, and he and his friend managed to bust the CRT neck while carrying it out. :cry:

not too hot on 2001, cabinet not as nice ----buy it now price just ridiculous. Captain definetly got better set. Digital tuning on 2001 with pushbuttons?? Somewhat interesting but cheap looking front panel overall. :no:
