I was poking around the thrifts this morning and got a 19" trinitron for 8 bucks. Its definitely an oldie, not with the tube rectifier, but a very large trippler unit mounted to the HV cage.

I have no other info on it other than its a model KV-1710. THe CRT is dim and the green fades in and out. I was thinking of putting it on the rejuvenator. I have the bias and green gun at maximum and the blue and red at minimum. THe only time the green appears is when there is an all white screen, at which point the green becomes very bright, then goes away again after the scene changes.

Those are getting pretty rare at this point, and it is what I would call a milestone TV. That 1710 was Sony's first big color set, and that got them into the livingroom market. Before that, the largest was a 12". Those are also easier to fix because they don't use the hated $65 SCR that you blow 3 or 4 of while troubleshooting; SG-613.

oh.. that set had a large neck CRT,yeah those are getting rare,I DO remember the chopper power supply in sony's sets after that model was out,"KV1722",so much fun to blow out sg-613's,and glue that became conductive and made the HV rise and damage CRT's.
i always thought i used a 18 volt power supply and scope to troubleshoot.memories..!.:).
make sure the HV connector is seated good,cause both convergence and 2nd anode HV are sent to that connector,and if not seated right it will flash green.
if you remove the cup the slowly peel up the rubber cup,cause it's connected with a hook sort of,and center electrode has a spring..

THanks for the input. I have yet to tear into the chassis, but I will get around to it this evening when I take some photos...

I've had a working one of those for sale for well over a year for $5 with no takers! I still see them pretty often around here. I've also seen a number of industrial ones that have a white cabinet and A/V inputs. I've never seen one with a strong CRT. I had one as a kid (my first Trinitron) with a totally green picture due to weak red and blue cathodes. I still have the gun from the CRT (I wanted to see how a Trinitron CRT worked).

I got the same or very similiar tv. Picture is good, not great, a knob tuner set. These older Trinitrons are hard to find, most people probaly kept these til CRT Failed.. Kaye, you got my cuirosity peaked---- I'm going to check if mine is a 1717, a year or two later???.

After some time on the rejuvenator, figiting with convergence, grayscale, and drive controls, it displays a damn good picture!

The dim defocused picture has been replaced with a bight, clear, and most of all correct grayscale raster. I can't get the pincushion any better than it is. It was WAY bowed out when I started.

Not bad for 8 bucks if I do say so myself. Its going to be my temporary set while my panasonic is getting re-capped.

It probably has some bad caps in the PCC circuit. The PCC adjustment should let you have the sides bowed in, or out.

it would be interesting to see how long the rejuv will last for you,every one of those sets that i remembered rejuvenating went weak again after a few hrs or power on and off after a few days,i went from a mild rejuv to a regular shot..also if i remember the 1710 crt filaments stay warm even when powered off.. i guess for that instant on feature..

The left board on the bottom covers sync and vertical.

The right most board is horizontal and power supply. The flyback, trippler, and HOT is on the right side of the set.


wiseguy: I know the rejuv probably won't last long. I'm going to do another grayscale adjustment tomorow, as the whites are starting to look pink. Strange that the grays are ok....
