Nice looking set. I can tell just by looking at that chassis that its a 20y1c50. Probably from around 1968. I've worked on three of these and each one I've run into has had HV regulation problems. There is a VDR that you will most likely have to replace that controls the shunt-regulator. I would grab it (only being about a few hours away) but I have absolutely no room for something that huge.

Does anyone know if the "green hallo" is the same cause that gives RCA tubes their cataracks (or however you spell it....)??

Damn.That looks a lot like the chassis in my uncles tv that probably hit the dump after the salvation army got it.His was early American style with much lighter wood.Probably oak.That is if that one had solid state IF.His may have been a Z chassis.His also had the first IC I ever seen in a tube set.The chroma demodulater was a metal cased IC that was soldered to a phenolic base that plugged into a 9 pin tube socket.The halo is caused by the glue behind the safety glass same as the RCAs.My uncles had been replaced by a Channel Master tube in 1985.So he no longer had the halo but that tube did have a purity problem in the lower right hand corner.Always did.He used that set everday til 2000.I kept it going in it's final years.

I have one of these, but not in a combo. Also has some hv quarks. But very nice when its behaving. (anyone interested in it? I'll make you an offer you can't refuse!)

The green halo, from what I've read, is harder to repair than the RCA type. A heat gun won't work, you need a hot wire. I haven't done one.

The chassis that the TV has uses 6EJ7 tubes. The video out uses a transistor. Other than that I'm not sure what's solid state on this chassis. It has about 21 tubes in it. It serves as a space heater as well as a TV!!

The shop I worked at during the late 70's would put Chromacolor II CRT's in those Zenith's they sure would put out a great picture for a tube set. That set still has the tube IF Zenith went to soild state IF a bit later. I hope somebody will save that combo.

That combo haves speakers in bought siedes?

Yes. The radio/phono is in stereo but not the tv, it would use both speakers but just in mono. Probably some pretty big speakers.

Dang, that chassis looks like the one in my 1970 Chromacolor set. I would have to date it from 1970 or 1971. That pinwheel thing that comes with the manual, that is the exact same thing I have for my TV as well. I as scanning it in so I can share it but I need to get a "round tuit."

With the all-tube chassis, and the diamond-shaped CRT protector cap I say 1967-8... By '70-71 I think they had gone to the hybrid and the round CRT cap. 20X1C38 chassis?
