I have one of those, though nowhere near as nice as that one. Somebody painted mine black and its missing the handle and antenna. It an intersting set as the radio shares the TVs power supply and audio amplification, so it only adds two tubes. In my other TV/Radio, a mid 60s GE, the radio is completly separate, and only shares a speaker with the TV.

Was this set and the little RCAs the only sets made in the 50s with these little 8" CRTs or where there more?

No, I have a couple of them and all the tubes stay lit. I do believe the HV is disabled however.

I've seen the Canadian version of this listed on eBay a couple times under (if I recall correctly) the "Marconi" brand.

Man that's a neat set. The style reminds me of lab equipment like a Tektronix scope or even a Hallicrafters ham set. It's currently over $150 and still has 19 hours left on the auction.

I have one with UHF. It's not a bad set for its size. It uses the same ion trap CRT as the popular 8" RCA from the 50's.

That's got to be the best screen shot of a TV I've seen. I wonder if he took two pictures (one in the dark) and combined them?

I have an Emerson from the 50's, a 1957 full size model, no radio, some water damage to the cabinet, sat under a leaky roof for years, the chassis stayed dry though, but not nearly as nice looking as this one. I haven't started working on it yet.
My Olympic console set has a radio like that with only 2 tubes, all the tubes in the TV chassis stay heated including the CRT when the radio is on, If you flip to the radio after watching the tv for a while a dot remains in the center of the screen for a while, then turn back to tv and the picture comes up right away.

I just blew the picture up, you can see the coax going to the back of the set, and in the picture it is on channel 3, other shots it is on a different channel. Plus the lighting is darker of the tuner area and top of the set. I bet you are correct, with modern still pictures being rock steady, plus you can see the reflection of the crt in the left side of the bezel surround

I'm just impressed how evenly exposed it is. It's really hard to get good exposure on the screen and the cabinet at the same time.

That is a spectacular TV.
A few months ago I saw a '60 Cadillac convertable on Ebay that had that model TV installed in the dash where the radio goes. It had a fold down door with a big Cadillac "V" in the middle to cover it and the radio was moved to the right. The knobs were quite worn out looking and that was after some repaiman went through at least 3(I think he said 5) old Emerson's for parts to get it working with a picture that did not compare to the one here. I thought a true novice must have fixed the set as one knob was missing the gold insert on top of having a bad picture. The car was red and white inside and out. The seller claimed it was some General Motors experimental job because of the dash TV and the title was for a '59 but it was a '60 body. My eye says it was an expert handyman's job. I will look in my saved Ebay items and if the photo is still available I will post it here.

I just looked and it went off my items saved list. I seem to remember it was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and it did not sell. I did not realise it had an AM radio in it because the lettering was worn off but it must have had it because the frame and knob layout was the same. Overall the installation was nice but when the cars signal-seeking AM radio was moved to the right the upper chrome edge wasn't aligned perfect as the factory would have done and it had a '70's boomering TV antenna on the trunk. It was all sort of irratating for me to see and read that the guy thought it was a factory made Cadillac for some special show. Now that I know the Emerson was a '56 model in a '60 Cadillac I feel even more certain it was an expert handyman special.

I've got one of these thaings, had Terry go thru it, but am missing the antenna, so it don't work too well. Mine isn't quite as nice as that one was. It looks small, but is about the same size as an overnite suitcase, & it AIN'T lightweight, either !! Still, it's cute, & a neat relic from the Fifties...But I'd STILL like to have a CT-100...-Sandy G.
