Someone mentioned this set over at antiqueradios.com
There was another on eBay a couple weeks ago, it went for pretty big bucks, $300+ I think.

I have a cabinet for one of these that I use for a nightstand.

Question. Was FM commercially broadcasted in 1949? Thought I had read somewhere FM was a 50's thing starting in LA.

FM was being broadcast prior to WW-ll. The first licensed commercial station went on the air in 1941 but I believe that there were FM broadcasts before that. These stations were were on the old FM frequencies (41 - 50 MC I think). During the war the current freqencies were allocated. Several manufacturers came out with the new FM band radios in 1946.
