Was FM commercially broadcasted in 1949? Thought I had read somewhere FM was a 50's thing starting in LA. Steve K 02-01-2003, 10:30 PM FM was being broadcast prior to WW-ll. The first licensed commercial station went on the air in 1941 but I believe that there were FM broadcasts before that. These stations were were on the old FM frequencies (41 - 50 MC I think). During the war the current freqencies were allocated. Several manufacturers came out with the new FM band radios in 1946. Steve |
