I was hoping maybe someone would have advice on a TV problem. I will also post better info when I have it. (model number etc...) But here's what I know so far. A coworker of mine called tonight and wants me to look at their tv, as they assume since I collect and attempt to work on old sets I must be able to work on anything. Anyway...... They have a circa 1995 Mitshibishi 36" console. They said within the past 2 weeks that on occasion they might see a flash of green or distorted color. They said they turned it on tonight and the picture looked like a picture negative. No onscreen adjusting seems to work. I'm assuming it's a cap. I guess what I'm asking is, if any of you repaired these are you aware of common problems. I know NOTHING on newer sets, especially a Mitshibish product. Your comments and input will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

1995 is a little on the new side, but I would guess that the picture in picture board has gone bad due to leaking surface mount caps. Depending on how bad it is, they can be replaced and the board cleaned up. It's also possible to bypass the PIP board if it's too far gone to repair. Mitsubishi sets are also known to have lots of other caps leaking, so it may not be worth trying to fix.

i just repaired a 92 model 35" it had a cap that leaked onto the crt board and took out a copper trace and had no green. and a heck of a lot of bad caps on the main board. just finished a 1991 50" mitsubushi replaced about 60 caps in it plus both convergence i.c. amps. looks good now.
