I saw this at an estate sale and the doors were closed...thought is was a ctc-4 round color but turns out it is a b/w. They wanted $85, I thought that was too much. Go back last day end of sale and they won't sell for less than $30...so I didn't get it.

They then call our shop later and say they'll let us have it for $15! I tried powering it up but all I got was hum from the transformer so immediately unplugged. Put it on the short checker lamp and the crt and tubes light up so it's not a gonner. Am trying to get to where the short is...will start replacing the electrolytics. Will start on the paper caps when I see if I can get the crt to produce an image.

Replaced the electrolytics and the damper tube and got the crt to work and sound...just need to replace the paper caps to get the picture right.

Even though its not a CTC-4, it does have that look. Nice to see you got a raster up already with a bright raster to boot. Cant wait to see the finished product.

heh, what type is the CRT? 21MP4?

Rectangular metal tubes look *weird*...

It is a 21AP4...70 degree deflection so it is pretty long. The HV connects to a little clip that attaches around the screen...entire metal shell is connected to HV and it has no insulator. This is the first metal tube set I've actually seen...glad that CRT works. It's a Tung-Sol replacement.

I had one of those tubes in a similar vintage Silvertone i own. It had alot of hours on it and needless to say the tube was shot. I had no choice but to do a conversion on mine with an all glass tube when i couldnt locate an exact replacement. So for those of you that are in the same situation as i was..it is possible to do this. The only drawback was i had to let the focus coil dangle underneath until i can figure a way to by-pass it or locate the proper tube. I did it in such a way that everything is totally reversable. After two years it still plays like new. Luckily Chad didnt have to result to doing this.
