Pulled this one out of the same shop today. It is really dirty and missing the knobs. This set has a 19 inch CRT.

Can anybody help with knobs?

Where does the black wire with the white cap hook to the chassis? It is coming from the yoke.

That wire looks like a grounding wire (possibly for the aquadag coating), and should connect to a post that's at chassis ground. It looks like the knobs to an XL-100 would work on it. I'm not sure what I have, but XL-100s are common and not that collectible. If I see one in the trash, I'll pull the knobs for you.

I just remembered that I had a CTC 53 parts set in the shed outside. Got a complete set of knobs for it. Plugged it up and got a raster. One of the tubes is glowing purple. I will play with it more tomorrow.

Hi Polaraman,
The black wire with the white connector you asked about hooks on a pin just between your vert. output tube and the tube above it. If you look closely you will find the pin because if i recall correctly its the only pin within reach of the wire that it can hook too. I never knew what that wire was for but in all of the ones i've had like this, they were hooked up this way. Neat find!

I remember about that wire from the yoke too...but it does not seem critical to the set's operation. I have a ctc-53 where the yoke had burned up, so I subsituted a yoke from a Wards airline set and left the wire disconnected, seemed to work ok. Tony is right about the hookup of the wire...there is a pin right in the area of the vert out tube to hook it up.
Thanks for getting the photos...never have actually seen one of this model. It ought to have the best performance of the RCA portable tube sets.
