It just quit on me. Can anyone help direct me to which part may be out? What to check? Thanks, Marc.

Since you're probably the guy I sent over here, you're going to need to provide a bit more detail than "It just quit on me." That's like coming to an automotive forum and saying "My car stopped running, what's wrong?"

Was it playing and then made a noise before shutting down? Smoke? Fire? What happens when you try to power up? Anything, or just acts dead?

Need symtoms for diagnosis.

This is my line of work, so I probably can be of some REAL assistance. First, though, I need to know some things:The chassis number of the set(on the back model tag, it will be something like, "ctc169, or ctc 197, or atc221, "etc.), for one. This will help eliminate some things, so i will know what I am dealing with.

Second, what was the failure mode, and what is it doing now? is it totally dead, or does it come up, and "shut down"?

i have repaired tons of rca projection sets. you are right those wiggly pins and wobbley shafts give a lot of trouble. just kidding. you need to know basic circuits before you attempt any repair. i wouldnt want to get you fried. we need to know the chassis # ctc

oooh, I hate the ctc169 series. the wobbly gears gave out alot on those. LOL.

anyway, i hated those for the stupid shitcan of a HV splitter, and the poor capacitors used in the power supply. whole mess of trouble. and the blue caps always went out in the pincussion taking out the HOT.

ive prolly fixed a zillion of those PTK169s. always the HV splitter, the two SMPS controller caps, and the blue cap near the HOT.

ive occasionally had to replaced the flybacks on these. but very rare that they die. mostly excessive b+, again, caused by the SMPS and poor capactors running it off frequency. I have alot of experiance with the 169s, and lately the 185s. I have a 167 thats giving me hell.

and im 19. ive been doing this since I was 14.

So is something wrong with the 27" ProScan I sold to someone a couple years ago because it's on a CTC169 chassis and it's still working? Definitely not normal behavior...
