Does anybody know anything about this one? As a National shortwave radio collector, I'm a little embarrassed that I never heard of this.

... when I saw one at the NEARC antique radio fleamarket in Nashua, NH. It was quite... utilitarian... looking, in a grey metal cabinet. Quite different than the eBAY item in question.

National made some 7" Electrostatic sets that are highly sought after.
I can only imagine what this will go for.
It's within driving distance of me too, but I'm too poor right now to get serious with it. :sigh:

Yeah, I didn't know they made wooden 10" sets, either. Their 7" sets were styled to look like their receivers, IIRC one of 'em had a signal strength meter on it. This guy sure is PURTY, and as such, I'd say it'll go high.-Sandy G.

The one I saw on Saturday must've been similar to those described by Eric and Sandy. I didn't see a signal strength meter, but the CRT was definitely small. Electrostatic deflection, eh?
I'm sure I couldn't afford it...

National also made a nice looking 7" wood cased set, same styling as this 10" set on ebay except it doesn't have the door covering the controls.

Hallicrafters also got into the TV business after the war. They hung in there longer than National did, even making a few 15" color sets as prototypes. Apparently, the profit margins in the superheated TV business of the late '40s were paper thin, And National threw in the towel. They just didn't have the resources to realistically compete w/mighty RCA.-Sandy G.
