I picked up a 1986 RCA ColorTrak TV off the curb the other day, the chassis is CTC120D. It's got a problem with scan lines. I know very little about old TV's but was wondering whether this can be corrected by setting a service line and adjusting the color settings? Or is it more likely a bad capacitor, or some other part?

I've attached a picture below. The brightness is turned down low to highlight the scan lines. Thanks.

Definitely a bad part, rather than an adjustment.

Thanks. Do you have any idea what the part might be? Something to do with the horizontal drive?

Not familiar with the details of this chassis. More diagnosis will be needed to track down the problem.
Do you have a signal connected, or is this picture with no input signal?
Is this model supposed to have on-screen menus?

I've got it connected to a Blu-ray with a digital reception adapter. It doesn't have an on-screen menu. I found a part that controls the horizontal drive on eBay for only six dollars with free shipping. The part number matches the one listed in the SAMS manual. I don't know whether it will fix the problem, but I ordered it.

1) be sure the G-2 is not too high.
2) look for the 200 volt line that feeds the 3 color outputs.
On it there is cap (@ 10mf 300 V ) to GND. May be in a 2 section can. Very common.

Thanks. I'll take a look at that. These old consoles are becoming less common. It looks a little generic. The remote was taped to the top and it appears to have been made in the USA. It may not have much value, but I still think it is worth saving. Whoever left it on the sidewalk probably thought so as well.

Indeed, certainly ahead in the future, even this consoles will be a kind of rarity and for history sake, if one have space for, is worth grabbing it.
