Does anyone here have the schematic for the Philco model 17E4206? It's the first Philco with a rectangular CRT, from 1950.

Apparently not a set manufactured in the US. Ordinarily Philco model numbers start with the 2 digit year of manufacture followed by possibly one letter and a few numbers following.

Probably Philco of Brazil used a different model number because the cabinet was made here but the chassis and CRT were imported from the USA. We didn't have real Brazilian Philcos until 1955.

Knob layout looks like a US 1952 model.

I have a similar Philco that’s a 1953 model that was purchased by my parents around Thanksgiving of 1952.

It was normal practice to change over production around July, so 1951 models would have shipped from the factory and been advertised in the fall of 1950. In this way, the latest models were available for the all-important holiday sales.

Even 1951 models were still using round CRTs. Here's a 51T-1607 for example. It does have a split chassis though. Probably what the set you are interested used.

Yes, my TV is a split - chassis model.

For Zenith full line release date was sept-oct. So those were in dealer hands the prev. year. SO a 1951 may have been sold in 1950. There can be early
releases also. High end slow movers can get dragged out over 3 yrs.
Best way to date the build is with date codes on unchanged OEM parts.
Find the newest date then add 30-60 days & you will be very close.
Main reason for fall release was as stated, hollidays. World series, football season, Thanksgivings, & Christmas. January prices fell & big sales
to clear off the shelves.

Zenith sold a lot of "kit" TV's in Argentina & I think Brazil. The kits had to
meet a certain " local content" percentage to get around import taxes.
Cabinets were different but the Zeniths were close, you knew what it was.
To save more weight CRT's are also local often.

Regarding shipping color CRTs. Delta-gun color CRTs were designed with built in compensation for the average vertical component of the Earth's magnetic field, which is opposite polarity in the northern ans southern hemispheres. In one case where an Australian TV maker used CRTs imported from the northern hemisphere in some models, the CRTs were mounted upside down to get the best color purity.

[Edit: The more I thinnk about it, the more I think this applies to in-line gun, stripe phosphor tubes too. Vertical magnetic field would bend the beams left or right. I do know the upside down mounting story is true,]

I discovered part of the meaning of the model number of my TV: 17E4206 - 17 is the size of the screen and the "E" means "Export Model" only the 4206 remains unclear.

If it's like US sets the last 4 digits are probably cabinet designator.

I checked my 2 old schematics books that have Philco (one is exclusive for Brazilian Philco B&W, from 1957 to 1983), but unfortunately, none have this model.
