Thank you for the links, I downloaded the whole magazine. It also has an article about the first European-designed and -built VHS VCR (Grundig VS200). That VCR appears to be made with multiple separate parallel boards, very unusual for a home VCR.

The UK magazine Practical TV changed its name over time but gives continuous coverage of TV technology and TV/Video/VCR/CD/DVD product development and repair info geared towards the repair shop starting in 1950 through 2005.

If you have some time for reading, it's an absolute treasure trove of theoretical and practical electronics knowledge.

Grundig Euro VHS: yes, this was a very original design. After the V2000's +/- market failure, Philips and Grundig started building VHS machines.
A shame really, the V2000 format with Dynamic Tracking Piezo Heads on a reversible 1/2 inch cassette was quite a technical achievement.
Ampex (where i worked), pioneered the tech (AST = Automatic Scan Tracking) on 1" Broadcast " Type C" VTRs.
V2000 came too late, by then VHS reigned supreme because video rental stores would not have movie software in several different formats.
