Found this GYYR vcr at the local goodwill, looks like it's for a security system?

Can I just pick up some BNC to rca plugs and use it as a normal vcr?

Won't operate as a normal VCR, it's for a CCTV security camera system. It doesn't record every frame so the tape will last for a few days of footage.

Does that mean that it can still play a normal vhs tape? It just records in time lapse style?

For 14 bucks I had to pick it up, I'll find a use.

That's a good find if it works. Brand new, those cost much more than a consumer grade VHS deck.If that Gyyr has SP or 2hour speed slection, it might play SP tapes only. Give it a try. Time lapses usually have many hours compiled and it's very likely that the heads are worn out.

I ordered the BNC to RCA adapters, so I'll give it a try then.

I've checked it out and it can be set from 2hr or 24hr speed.

Just bought a good working 1997 Panasonic vcr for 12 bucks. I'm a happy man.

The GYYR is a great unit. Up to 960 hour recording on a typical T-120/T-130.
RS 232 interface for remote, with battery backup, and the 15 pin control bus for alarm controller

One good use of the 960 hour recording function I can think of would be to use it to record Gone With the Wind and 2001 a Space Odyssey, then play it back on a normal VCR at 8X speed...It's probably the only way to make those films NOT boring/too stinking long. :D
