A friend gave me this 19" Quasar color TV from 1978 and someone gave it to him about 10 years ago. It was in use up until they turned off the analog signals, at which time it was shoved to the side. I have not personally tested it yet, but my friend said it looked like the tube was a bit soft. Hopefully, when I get my CR70 fixed, I can rejuvenate it. I don't recall seeing many of these, even back in the '90s, but from what I'm told, they were good sets. This set was made after the Matsushita buyout of Quasar from Motorola and it looks like it was built at the old Motorola plant in Franklin Park, IL.

On many sets where the CRT heaters were flyback-driven, there was a small series resistor of around 2 - 3 ohms, mounted on the neck board. Shunting this resistor would bring the emission up nicely. You might check and see if your set has this resistor.

I had one just like it that had a soft looking CRT. I remember years ago watching some no-name cable movie channel and seeing a commercial for a film they were going to run "Hannah and Her Sisters" or something like that, and in the 30 seconds of clips from it they showed that set was in the film.

Early 2021 I got a slightly newer Quasar with ultrasonic remote (came free with my RCA CTC-16 remote Stockholm combo) ... Probably one of the last ultrasonic remote sets sold...It's now my work bench watcher (less intermittents than my 19" CCII that I sold after swapping them out on the bench).

Thats the first set I found with the 200V cap bad. I bet thats all
it is. That cap put my oldest through collage along with RCA CTC175 etc.

Those really were great and reliable sets. We used to sell them for $395. They looked better than the RCAs and Magnavoxes at the place across the street, and never broke.

Around 15 years ago I snagged one off curb. I believe mine was a '79 model. I was able to source and install an OEM flyback for it, and it is still in storage someplace with a fantastic pic.

One thing about these Panasonic and Quasars were the flybacks going left and right. Once the CompuFocus chassis circa 1984 kicked in, they got a bit better. However, those sets did develop soft CRTs after some time. But the full square tube was the set to have in the mid eighties

Yes, those Matsushita flyback transformers were high failure and some of them would go out rather violently. The TLF14423F was a very popular one in 25" sets that were sold under the Panasonic, Quasar, and GE brands and just about every one of those that I saw had a bad flyback and HOT, a cooked PC board, and a weak CRT.
