Dumb question: RCA 17 AD X Fine Tuning

When I have channel 3 selected, and tune in color and crispness the best the tv can do, the buzz in the sound is very thick in the signal. I can never get this clarity/color (with color tuned turned low/ tint low) without very thick sound distortion.

However if you fine tune channels 2, 3 or 4 to remove buzz you lose color and contrast/sometimes horizontal. You can tune in crisp black and white and turn color up but it seems on the extreme of color dial turned to the right.

This sounds confusing so when I get a chance to record it I will and post the video.

Could be your sound IF is off frequency... I'd be tempted to dial in perfect picture and try to tweak the sound IF for clarity.

Another option is to comb out all the bad sound and video IF resistors...On my CT-100, 21CT55, and both of my CTC-4s the sound, color and monochrome all didn't line up with each other and replacing all the off tolerance resistors brought them all back to normal performance...YMMV

First try the AGC control. Usually going CCW will cut back on buzz & pix
tearing but also wash things out a bit. Going CW will do the opposite.
At a point going CW will really tear things up & cause a lot of buzz.

Second thing is to try adjusting the audio detector coil. If you do "flag"
your alignment tool. In other words put a piece of tape on it to be
SURE you can return it to the start. Dont go more than a half turn, if
you have to something else is wrong.

Keep in mind when this set was new NO add on stuff existed. When
they were in the 70's the set was considered obsolete.
