MTS allowed up to a total of four audio channels. The fourth channel, PRO, was only used by the broadcasters.

That's a cool graphic....If I'm interpreting it right then TV stereo and SAP are implemented in essentially the same way as FM radio MPX stereo and SCA. Basically FM modulate an audio signal that contains an ultrasonic pilot tone and the difference signal AM modulated on an ultrasonic carrier. With SAP and SCA implemented similar to the difference signal only higher into the ultrasonic/low RF range.

I know in MTS stereo they used the columbia CX noise reduction system. CX was designed for LPs but failed in that market but was used in CED, and survived the century in TV MTS stereo and as a standard in LD audio tracks.

I have an old fisher amp that with that dolby decoder. I used to use it mainly as a remote AV switch till some of the jacks got flakey...I may fix it soon since another home theater amp that replaced it won't power on.

Cable used that surround over stereo format right until the end of analog a few years ago and it still exists in VHS tapes, LDs, DVDs etc.

That dolby surround over stereo matrix is very similar to the 1970s SQ and QS methods of recording quadraphonic sound onto stereo LPs...it's so similar that if you unplug your sub woffer, run phantom center channel mode, and reverse speaker polarity on certain speakers you can use one of those dolby decoders to play SQ Quad LPs in quadraphonic sound....to an extent you can do the reverse (play the dolby surround with a QS decoder) too.

The receiver you have, is a McMartin SCA receiver (Subsidiary Communications Authorization). Which is rarely used anymore today. This service was used for radio reading service for visually impaired and print handicapped users, background music services for stores, offices, and industry, and was subscription based. FM Radio based, not TV based. Has nothing to do with MTS in any form, let alone Pro.
