View Full Version : Predicta production changes and missing capacitors

Hey everyone,

I'm nearly finished with my Predicta Holiday. Only a few more capacitors remain from the excellent kit Crist put together for me. So far, everything went smoothly, but I've come across something that's stumped me. One note: this set had never been used when I got it and has never been worked on by anyone.

In the Sams, the photo of the bottom of the chassis clearly shows a small bumblebee capacitor in the upper left-hand corner of the chassis, labeled as C59. This, according to the schematic, is the across-the-line cap. This same photo also shows a huge-ass bumblebee in the lower right quarter of the chassis, just above the vertical output transformer, labeled as C23 and connected to the center pole of the local-distance switch according to the schematic. Both are .1ufd. OK, fine.

But! That huge-ass bumblebee C23 is clearly wired across the power line in my set. And! That smaller bumblebee C59? My set doesn't have one.

While we're at it, the photo shows another wax paper capacitor C35 (K of Vert Osc to ground) that isn't there either. There is another wax paper of the same value in a place it isn't supposed to be, and I haven't traced its origins yet.

I have the Philco service manual for this set, which includes all the production changes, and there is no mention any of these changes.

So my assumption is that the Sams is wrong. But I wanted to ask before I go any further if anyone else has run into this? Is there a compendium of Predicta Sams errors someplace? A search here didn't turn up anything.

Thanks!
