View Full Version : Do RCA "prison TVs" have a unique chassis number?

I recently acquired a RCA "prison TV", chassis number ATC106. I want to upgrade it to the functionality of a normal TV (composite outputs, normal volume levels instead of the purposely limited prison spec, etc). I've found a schematic that says it's for that particular chassis, but what I want to know is, is that chassis number just for this type of set or was it used by other consumer-spec RCA branded sets? I ask this because if the schematic is only for the prison version, it's not likely to tell me what components I need to re-enable normal volume and composite video.

Sounds like its a Red Chinese RCA not a Thompson. Cant speak
for video ins & outs. For the volume limit see if you can find
the service menus & change it there. Do a search on the model & chassis #'s.
WARNING !!! Whenever you mess with a service menu on ANY TV
write down ALL the factory settings & leave it inside the TV !
That goes for you, you & you too:D

I have a few of these sets, one without DTV tune and three with. AFAIC, they are rather good working sets. I didn't run across one that had limited volume.
I said it before, it is an interesting piece and people question me about it.

I did see something like "Auto Volume Control" in settings that I turned off, so that should hopefully sort the volume issue.

But without knowing if the schematic I have shows me the missing parts I need, I can't have composite video input. I have the PDF of the schematics but I'm not gonna lie, I can't read them worth a damn.

Also, the model number is "J13805CL", and the chassis is "ATC106" as mentioned before.
