I keep seeing this Nissan ad that starts out in a living room in 1985 with a big console TV in the background. Is it real or something they put together for the ad?

It looks like an RCA ColorTrak if you ask me but I've never seen that style cabinet.

GE had some top-of-the-line consoles in that time frame with a control panel like that, too. They offered some pretty decent cabinets.

Actually, I think 1985 was that short period where they were badged "Datsun by Nissan".

Yeah, I saw that for the first time this morning. At first I thought it was a RCA but now not so sure.

Yeah, the escutcheon above the CRT reminds me of the Dimensia series. But, again... not so sure.

I believe this is an RCA console, from their unfortunately-named "Dimensia" series of high-end sets. I remember seeing one in the window of our town's RCA dealer around then and thinking it looked like it was from the future.

I've heard of these. One of the very few TVs released in the US with SCART input.

Personally, I've never seen a wooden console TV, Dimensia or otherwise, with angled speakers in a wood cabinet like that. However, there were tons of variations of the wooden console TV so there absolutely could be one.

When cheap TVs like this are free on Craigslist and elsewhere, why would anyone waste time building a prop? If anything, they'd just cover the brand name on a cabinet.

Tough one. As said maybe GE or RCA. The plastic looks to
cheap for RCA so I would go with GE. I am sure it is a real TV.
Only thing missing is if GE the logo usually says...
"General (GE) Electric" but that may have been covered up.
What ever it is I would consider it a desirable set if you like
mid period SS sets.

It could be a Panasonic, i had a few come through that looked like that set. One was a 25" and another one was a 27" with a worn out crt. I am saying it could be. The 27" set i liked it, but 350 for a crt no thank you it was about a 87 model.

Also, if you closely at the bear that the child is holding, it's a Teddy Ruxpin bear.

May be an RCA model GKC-2050P from a 1988 brochure I saw.
