I have that Farnsworth tv.got it back in 1981 and got it working with a quik replacement of a vert cct cap.i need to recap it one day. YouTube's of the last time I ran it. It's funny how MGM is posting a bunch of Addams Family episodes now. Doubtless they're trying to promote the new animated film.

It wasn't that great, tbh.

One thing I noticed about that Adams family episode,when the family asked "thing" to turn the volume down,"thing" rotated the focus knob.ha. that's Hollywood for ya.

Why so many knobs on the front of that Farnsworth TV?

My TV I'm working on which was made about 3 years after that TV only had 3 knobs on the front (not including the knobs for the tuner), of which all three of the knobs on the front were dual purpose knobs, knob one being the power/volume switch, knob two being the brightness and contrast controls, and knob three was the vertical and horizontal hold controls.

Capeheart/Farnsworth was a pioneer in TV and their designs were closer to engineering prototype than mature product...many controls normally reserved for the technician and hidden on the back panel were front panel user controls on a Farnsworth....sort of like broadcast monitors.

Ok, that makes sense. I have an old Capehart AM/FM/Phono combo unit from 1950, and it's a rather unique piece for sure. Those Capehart/Farnsworth sets were made in Fort Wayne, Indiana which is about an hour and twenty minutes Southeast of where I live. :thmbsp:

:rolleyes: I always thought they kinda blew it with Thing , here was supposed to be this possessed severed hand in a box , and the hand looked WAY too neat & clean !

:tongue: It should have looked like Frankenstein's hand , all moldy and nasty with nail rot and a few chunks missing , THAT would have been creepy :D

Thing was actually played by Ted Cassidy, AKA "Lurch"...

Tone was seen on many deluxe sets. “Framing” would be horizontal hold, and “background” would be brightness. The difficult to read control left of the CRT is vertical hold. Nothing too unusual.

I didn't say there was anything unusual I was just kind of surprised at how many controls there were on this set compared to my set which is also an early Post WWII set that is similarly sized to this one and was also made in a small Indiana town.

My sets have the same knob combo, seems to be the correct factory installed setup.
