Hi guys,

Picked this up a few weeks ago. Nothing wrong with it, I just tought I'd share it with you. Model number C539-15404, chassis C539-60100. Very good picture. Only problem is a misconvergence in the lower left. I thought inline shoulnd need convergence...could this be caused by faulty capacitors?

These were VERY good sets. Only common problem was IC
sockets when used.

Side convergence is done by bending the yoke. After center is
adjusted OK tighten the yoke. Then grab the yoke near the bell
& bend it back & forth ( get it closer or father to the bell). When
set you put a rubber wedge between the yoke & bell. Most sets used
3 wedges at apx 120 degrees apart but they often fell off with age.

HINTS
1) When the center & purity are good the yoke is almost never pushed
all the way up against the bell.
2) It is easier on most consoles to reach around the set & NOT use a
mirror to do a set-up. On a big one you actually lay on it.

Ah yes , you are right, one of the rubber thigny fell off!

Edit : Tried to move the yoke, but two of the three rubber adjuster are glued on so i'd have to remove the glue to try and adjust it. So i played with the convergence rings insted and got good results for the static , but still , the dynamic convergence is not perfect.

Now, it seems that the initial convergence was done at the manufacturing plant...have you guys ever encounter bad convergence right out of the box??

I don't think the convergence was bad from the factory. But components age, and as you say, one of the rubber blocks, shims, whatever, fell out.

Very nice console TV from 1984 and I hop you enjoy it. My only console TV is an RCA from 1989 and I did get the original remote control too but it doesn't work very well.

Yeah most remotes of that vintage have been abused quite a lot. Pretty much every one I got from the 80's have some sort of issue.

Enjoy that RCA, I believe that one might be a Thompson actually, they bought the RCA name from GE after GE bought RCA in the mid 80's.

Yeah, probably. I got the static pretty good, ill see about bending the yoke next time I work on that set.
