I've decided to throw reason completely aside and adopt four of the largest heaviest televisions you can imagine. These four orphans were on the brink of heading to the dump and I felt like I had to save them. It was a comedy of errors trying to organize their transportation from afar that included one shipper going to the wrong pickup address and a night out in the rain...but they're here now. It's my hope to restore the Crosley and put it in my living room, replacing my RCA Victor 730TV1 as the main television/music entertainment on the 1st floor. I think the GE might undergo restoration and join the collection in the basement (if I can figure out how the heck to get it down there). I'm not sure what the fate of the RCA Victor 641TVs will be yet.

I think I've gone off the deep end :screwy:!

They're big, but they're some pretty sweet sets. I especially like that first Crosley. I guess that CRT just swings out? How many tubes in it? Good finds and great job saving them!

I like the one with the screen in what looks like a separate, removable cabinet. They're all pretty cool, though.

I think it will fit down the doorway size wise, I just need to remove the chassis so it can be done weight wise. The GE is unbelievably heavy... I think I need to install a loading dock and lift :scratch2:.

By the way, if anyone is near the Pittsburgh area and would like to bring the RCA back to life let me know. I think you could make one nice set out of the two.

The 901 has a phonograph and the 910 does not.

The one I have is a 901. I haven't gotten a great look at it yet, but I do know the phonograph is missing as well as the knobs.

IIRC, that set uses a 7F8 for the local oscillator in the tuner, and an unusual IF frequency. Be prepared to buy many, many 7F8s. You'll need to swap them to find the least drift prone example, or else put up with adjusting the fine tuning every few minutes for the first half hour of operation.

There is a problem with some browsers, especially those professionally set up in many business offices: For added security, there is a size limit of a PDF you can directly view on-line.

Go to this page on ETF:

Select (usually single right click for windows) either GE 901 or 910 and select from the menu that pops-up [Save target as.] (Both the 901 and 910 are the same file)

A new window will then open up. Before you select [Save] note what the file is being named. If it is a random string of numbers and letters, stick "GE-901", or whatever you wish, ahead of the name before you hit save and it will be a lot easier to find.

This will get you around the browser size limit, and ETF should download all forty pages of the factory manual.

and was expecting to see an RCA type of light barrel, and looked right at the Lucite lens, but did not recognize it without its RCA hardware.

I'll bet that open mirror in the GE makes a nice place for cats to curl up in . . . . . . . but it does make it much easier to clean the mirror, and to accidentally damage the silver surface.

I was surprised at the lack of X-Ray shielding on GE CRT / mirror system.

I was looking at the Crosley schematic, not the GE. Ross emailed me a good scan of one and I have it printed out on 6 sheets of paper.
