Pretty sure this is a funky style cap, but whatever it is, it's not a good capacitor OR a resistor.

Probably a resistor..... Take at least one leg out of the circuit and see what the meter
tells you it is......

Already did that. It's open.....AND doesn't read as anything on my capacitance tester.

The value (502) suggests it's a capacitor, perhaps 5000pf, as 5000 is not a standard RETMA/EIA value resistor in that size. What's the set? Sams/Rider?

This is that same Admiral 20X12 that I've been working on. I'm trying to trace down an AGC issue, and I can't decide what this part is. Sams 100 folder 1, coming off pin 6 of V7. And it's definitely not the .01 cap.

Was gonna put it in the thread for the set, but I figured this was a quick answer for somebody.

Pin 6 is the screen and has B+ on it. So there should be one end of R32(5.6K) soldered from pin 6 and it feeds B+ through L14, L13 to the plate(pin 5). Possibly someone replaced the original R32 with that thing? R32 on my 20Z1 is also funky looking, but not exactly the same as yours.

yes thats a resistor seen them befor. look at the opposite side it may show the value.

I agree with Findm-Keepm, it looks like a 5000pf cap to me as well. I have seen lots of them before in different sets. Maybe some past tech changed it for some reason. What does the other end of it attached to?

I would check the schematic for sure because I have one of those and it shows on one side 5 meg ohm on it.

To me it looks like some tech replaced one of your video peaking coils with an adjustable? Do the solder connections I've circled look factory to you guys?

Well, have you checked for B+ on pin 6 (screen grid) of V7? If there's none, is there B+ on the other end of where the mystery component connects? If so, what does that tell you?

Don't know what's up with that type of design, it does look like an odd cap but it's a resistor. Seems like it's encapsulated within a capsule, maybe it was to identify a crtiticle resistor for a specific circuit. The one I mentioned I have didn't have the same colors but is the same but different color bands and marked as well.

I could have sworn I've run into caps like this on an Admiral before. Or maybe it was on a 7" electrostat. That's why I took pause with it.

Looks like a 5K ohm resistor.... Easy to finally settle this..... Take it out
and cut it open. Caps will have cap material inside, like foil, and resistors
will have resistor stuff inside, like carbon, tree roots, coffee grinds, and
possibly old Bazooka bubble gum.....

I think these type of resistors are not made with carbon or other stuff that's typically put into a resistor I think this may be some sort of special duty chemical resistor.
